At Harcourt Farming Co-op, we farm using organic and regenerative principles, and were certified organic from 2008 until mid-2025. In the past, certification helped us access certain markets, but now that all our marketing is direct to consumer, we no longer need that formal label. We keep things transparent by sharing our Holistic Management Plan, building strong connections with our customers and community, and welcoming questions about how we farm.

have some more great harvests on offer this week - including the wonderful heritage Gravenstein apples, there are not many left so this is a rare chance to try this variety which is almost impossible to buy! Also on offer - delicious Prunes - so sweet to eat or delicious to dry (they turn into prunes!)

The new season’s Gala apples have been picked and are sweet and crunchy, there are plenty of fabulous sweet and juicy Blood Plums, and sweet little Greengage heritage plums still on offer!

So come and grab something new (or an old favourite) today from 2:30-5:30pm at Camp Reserve, Forest St.

Looking to learn more about growing healthy and productive fruit trees? We’re hosting a series of inclusive workshops designed for local people, of all ages and abilities, to develop skills and confidence for employment and volunteering in orchards! The Harvest Ready program is a collab between Orchard Keepers, Grow Great Fruit, and Castlemaine Community House.

Our first session this Saturday is on Fruit Fly Management and we’re very keen to get as many locals there as possible because fruit fly prevention is a community-wide problem and we need to work together for the solution! It’s been low-pressure this year (haven’t heard of any signtings in the district), which is great - so this is the time to up our skill levels so we’re ready for when they come back!

Sellar Dairy will be there today with limited milk and yoghurt until sold out, there’s only 10 litres of milk and 5 yoghurts for sale today so get in quick! Cherry and Chloe will be calving any day now so the supply is expected to increase soon.

New season’s apples! are excited to be picking the first of the apples and will have the wonderful heritage Gravenstein apples at market today - jump in quick to get these beauties, they’re at their best fresh off the tree, and they were picked this morning.

It’s heritage fruit week, because we also have the delightfully sweet and special Greengage and Angelina plums, as well as two sorts of juicy blood plums.

Fruit Crew have been busy picking and will have a wonderful selection of Plums available.

Plums are so diverse and unique that they can be as different from each other as an apple and a peach. There will be 4 different blood plums (including the rare and delicious dark purple Frontier), delicious heritage Greengage, and the last of the sweet and lemony cocktail pears up for grabs!

Thanks to everyone who has reached out to check on us; the humans, cows and farm are all exhausted but okay. We were ridiculously lucky. The fire which started on Friday 9 January and became known as the Fogartys Gap/Ravenswood fire was a text-book, worst case scenario for us at the farm.

Yet somehow, by virtue of being in the shadow of the Harcourt township, our farm has currently, miraculously it feels, remained unburnt. Many others in Harcourt and surrounds have not been so lucky.

That Friday afternoon, Harcourt lost 54 houses, the Harcourt Cooperative Cool Stores, housing some 85 businesses, and the Coolstore cafe. Not to mention sheds, animals, wildlife, trees, fences, and pasture. The people affected in our fire and others, have been front of mind for us since it happened.

A huge thank you to the countless people who have been supporting us over this stressful period. At this stage our farm has still been miraculously untouched, solely because of the enormous effort by our Emergency Services - both on the Friday as the fire burnt past us up to Liyanganuk and since as the fire creeps through the ridges and valleys behind us.

Power came on last night so our businesses can start to get back to some form of normal. As we have been without power to chill and process milk, Sellar Dairy has taken the week off to recover, stay alert and keep the farm running. This will be the first and only week since the dairy started that we will not be attending market. CSA subscriptions will resume on Friday for those who regularly collect on this day.

The Orchard Keepers WILL be attending market this week and Jill has kindly stepped in to come back from holidays a bit early, so please come down to get your cherries, apricots and plums. All the fruit was picked before the fire so no smoke damage - we haven’t picked any fruit since the fire, so we don’t know yet if it’s tainted, we’ll keep you posted. 🤞
