🚨 Inspiring Story Alert 🚨

We are always inspired by what people can do, and by celebrating their achievements we hope you will be too!

Our inspiring story this month is our very own Your Move Health legend, Carol.

Carol unfortunately suffered a stroke in 2021, affecting her right side and forcing her to have to learn to walk again. She began working with us in 2024, after a number of additional setbacks had left her feeling like she had lost all physical capacity and confidence.

Carol has been working with us once a week for the past 2 years, as she is determined to reduce her reliance on her 4-wheeled-walker and to improve her balance & strength.

Recently Carol celebrated her 78th birthday, along with some significant physical milestones. She is noticing significant improvement in her upper body strength - this week being able to open the door to the clinic without assistance. She has also seen improvements in her walking confidence, as she is now able to walk short distances with a walking stick instead of her walker.

Carol is a brilliant example of the slow and steady progress that can be made with consistency of effort. Keep up the great work Carol!

🧪🎓✏️Our April Science Snapshot:

Updated Guidelines on Resistance Training for Adults

The American College of Sports Medicine has just released an update to their evidence-based guidelines for strength (resistance) training, based on the combined results of studies involving more than 30 000 participants.

The updated guidelines highlight the fact that there are a range of different strength training methods that can improve strength and muscle growth, however consistency of strength-challenging exercise is perhaps the most important factor in order to see any health benefit.

Take home message: Don’t get too hung up on the “perfect training program”. Find movement that you enjoy that challenges your muscles, and do it often.

🚨 Inspiring Story Alert 🚨

We are always inspired by what people can do, and by celebrating their achievements we hope you will be too!

With the Winter Olympics having concluded last month, we were reminded of the story of Australia’s first ever Winter Olympics Gold Medalist – Steven Bradbury.

Steven won gold in the men’s 1000m speed skating event at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, coming from last place to cross the finish line first after all his opponents crashed into each other and fell on the final lap.

Although this story is often told as an example of good fortune, what is often forgotten is the decades of hard work that had lead to that moment. Steven was competing in his 4th consecutive Winter Olympics, having recovered from an ice skate blade to the thigh requiring 111 stitches, and a broken neck in training in the year 2000 that had doctors telling him that he would never skate again.

Bradbury himself has said: "Obviously I wasn't the fastest skater. I don't think I'll take the medal as the minute-and-a-half of the race I actually won. I'll take it as the last decade of the hard slog I put in."

His story is one of true Australian determination, and an example of where putting in the hard work can pay off even when you least expect it.

On the menu this month is…home heart health exercise!

Cardiovascular (or aerobic) exercise – movement that gets your heart pumping a little bit – is fantastic for our health for a variety of reasons. If you are able to get out for a run, a swim, or a bike ride, then that is excellent.

However, there are also ways to huff and puff without leaving your living room! Check out this video on YouTube, for a simple 5-minute aerobic exercise session you can follow, all in the comfort of your own home and without any exercise equipment needed.

This workout is for beginners and great for families that want to burn calories with a home workout. Complete up to four times for a full workout or once for...

🧪🎓✏️Our March Science Snapshot:

As today (13th March) is World Sleep Day, we asked the question:
What Type of Exercise Is Best For Sleep?

A systematic review published in 2025 analysed the results from 86 separate studies (a total of over 7000 participants) to determine the effects of different types of exercise on sleep quality.

The study found that a range of different exercise types had a positive effect on sleep quality, and that Pilates and Aerobic Exercise were the most effective.

The take home message is that if you are someone who struggles with sleep, there is good evidence that regular exercise can improve your sleep quality.
