Why can't I just get over it!?

Anxiety is the most common problem affecting Australians’ mental health – it’s the equivalent of the common cold for the mind but it does much more damage.

Anxiety isn’t something one can simply “get over”. Overcoming your anxiety will be informed by your natural response to anxiety; either avoidance or using a “crutch”, or safety behaviour, to cope.

Online counselling with our team of professionals helps people to work out effective plans for overcoming their anxiety. This can involve identifying the core underlying beliefs that are a part of the anxiety, where the anxiety comes from, and, of course, how to start taking small practical steps to overcome the anxiety.

You or someone you know has likely experienced anxiety, our body’s natural response to stress. Unfortunately, merely being aware of anxiety does not negate the difficulty in dealing with it. When a loved one is suffering from anxiety, it can be difficult to know how to help them best.

To provide the right support for our loved ones, it’s important to be aware of how anxiety develops, what the identifying triggers are, and how to cater our response to the needs of our partners.

If you are experiencing anxiety and need support, contact us online to make an appointment.

Not all abuse leaves bruises.

💔 Gaslighting
💔 Constant criticism
💔 Being isolated from family and friends

If something doesn’t feel right, trust that instinct.

Too many Australians remain in emotionally abusive relationships simply because they don’t recognise the patterns. A reality reflected in the statistics, with nearly one in four women (23%) and one in six men (14%) having experienced emotional abuse by a partner.

They’ve been conditioned to believe it’s normal or worse, that it’s their fault.

The Red Flag Radar self-assessment was created by psychologists to help you spot the signs of toxic dynamics and understand why walking away can feel so hard.

Take the first step. It’s free, private, and could change your life.

How to be a safe person... Not just for a day, but always...

Coming out is often imagined as one big moment. But in reality? It’s many moments.

Little glances. Quiet disclosures. Ongoing conversations. Each one is a chance to help someone feel seen, loved, and safe. Being a true ally isn’t a title—it’s a practice. It’s how you show up, again and again. 💜

📖 This is a quick look into From Surprise to Support, a free guide created by psychologists to help you navigate what comes after someone comes out and how to be a safe, steady presence in their life.

“What if I already messed it up?”

The truth is, coming out isn’t a one-time conversation — it’s a process. What you do next still matters. Your support will count not just today, but in the quiet moments after:

At family dinners. In group chats. On social media. In how you speak about them to others.

By showing up now, you’re planting a seed of trust. Water it. Let it grow. 💜

When someone comes out to you, it’s okay to feel surprised. It’s okay not to have the perfect words.

What matters most is to: Stay open. Stay kind. Stay present.

These words may seem small, but to someone who’s been holding their breath for days, months—or even years—they can be life-changing.

📖 This is a snippet from our free guide, From Surprise to Support, created by psychologists to help parents, teachers and loved ones respond with empathy.
