We are pleased to welcome Dr Duncan McKellar to the Acacia-Fiori Geriatrics team as a Old Age Psychiatrist

Duncan's leadership in older persons' mental health is well-recognised. He has worked with dementia specialist aged care provider HammondCare, supporting the Commonwealth-funded Dementia Support Australia program. In 2017 he was a co-author of The Oakden Report and subsequently became the clinical lead for the reform of statewide older persons’ mental health services. “I would get halfway through a sentence and then forget the next word I wanted to say.”

When Peter was diagnosed with younger onset dementia just before his 65th birthday, he didn't know anyone else his age with the disease.

A year earlier, he had voiced his concerns to a GP about forgetting things and having a few cognitive issues but was told this was nothing to worry about, that he was just getting older.

The next year, after an MRI confirmed Peter’s younger onset dementia diagnosis, he began figuring out his next steps.

Dr Dhiraj Saini is a dedicated and experienced Geriatrician with over a decade of practice. Dr Saini is passionate about improving the quality of life for elderly patients. He holds qualifications of MBBS, FRACP, MRCP(UK) and FRCP (Edinburgh). His extensive experience and expertise are focused on several key areas of geriatric care.
Specializations:
Cognitive Diagnosis and Management: Dr Saini specializes in the assessment and treatment of cognitive disorders, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive and personalized care.
Frailty Assessment and Management: Dr Saini's approach to frailty involves detailed evaluations and tailored management plans to support the health and well-being of his patients.
Peri-operative and Orthogeriatric Care: I provide expert care for elderly patients undergoing surgery, with a focus on optimizing outcomes and promoting recovery.
Special Interests
One of his significant areas of interest is Parkinson’s Disease. He is dedicated to managing both the motor and non-motor symptoms associated with this condition, helping patients maintain their independence and quality of life.
