Curiosity, connection, sensory needs, oral motor skills… and a whole lot of other important pieces too (this is just the beginning!). 🍽️

Our hardworking Babble & Munch Feeding Therapy team is taking some time off to rest, recharge and spend time with our families over the Melbourne Cup weekend. We'll be back in the clinic on Wednesday. For our local followers, stay dry on this rainy long weekend! ☔

Hi to all the therapists and clinicians following! 👋🏼

I’m really excited to share something new I’ve been working on. I’m building something I wish existed for a long time – a dedicated, detailed course on gastrointestinal (GI) and allergy issues in feeding for health professionals!

GI and allergy issues are such common underlying contributors to feeding difficulties, from infant feed refusal through to school age selective eating, but they are also so easily overlooked and most of us never get much training in this area.

This new course for clinicians is designed to fill that gap with a focused, in-depth, evidence-based look at GI and allergy conditions, how they impact feeding, what families are navigating in terms of medical management, and how we can support them with comfort-first strategies. I teach aspects of this in some of my other courses (including some face-to-face days in the past), but not to this level of focus.

I sought feedback online and through my email list as to what clinicians wanted to learn in GI & allergy - and collected over 9 pages of feedback and clinical/knowledge gaps people were seeking to fill. In addition to the content, I'm also developing practical activities, new checklists and decision tools, and hypothetical case exercises - making sure it helps you build and apply clinical skills, not just theoretical knowledge.

Because I'm still building the course, I'm running a special pre-sale offer where you can join now at a discounted rate for getting in early.

Can't wait to share this course with you!

Mess is a normal (and important!) part of mealtimes.

As hard as it may be to resist wiping the puree from your baby’s face while they're eating, allowing some mess can actually support your child’s feeding development. Children learn through touch and play, not just through eating.

For some children, regular wiping or scraping with the spoon can feel uncomfortable or even distressing, distracting from the positive mealtime experiences we want to build. Instead, wait for the end of the meal to clean up.

By letting mess happen, you’re helping your child build a more relaxed, sensory, positive relationship with food - and that’s something worth getting a little messy for. 🍝🍦✨

Today we want to give a heartfelt shoutout to all the incredible dads, father figures, and special people walking alongside their little ones on their feeding journey.

Feeding therapy isn’t just about the child, it’s about the whole family. We see the early mornings, the packed lunches, the patience, the encouragement, and the love you bring to every meal, every session, every milestone.

From all of us at Babble and Munch we’re so grateful to be part of your supporting your child and family. 💛

Did you know that 1 in 3 carers will ask their child’s doctor for help with feeding?
And that some speech pathologists are specifically trained to support babies and children with feeding and swallowing? 🙋‍♀️

This week we’re celebrating Speech Pathology Week (25–31 August) 🎉
At Babble & Munch, we want to acknowledge and thank our colleagues across Australia and around the world 🌏 who support families every day in creating safer, calmer, and more positive mealtime experiences. 💞

Speech pathologists with additional training in feeding can help with:
🤱🏽 Breast or bottle feeding
🍓 Moving onto solids, lumpy foods or finger foods
🥤 Learning cup or straw drinking
😫 Coughing, choking or gagging on food or drink
🥣 Fussy, anxious or selective eating
🍕 Feeding aversions
🍐 Tube feeding and learning oral feeding skills
😋 Developing hunger and appetite awareness
👩🏽‍🧒🏻 Building positive mealtime relationships

At Babble & Munch, feeding is our passion – whether that’s supporting families directly (in-clinic or via Telehealth) or training other health professionals around Australia and internationally to feel more confident in feeding therapy. 🤝

It’s National Eosinophilic Week (Aug 3–9)

Eosinophilic diseases may be rare, but their impact is significant.
From food refusal and pain to difficulty swallowing or anxiety at mealtimes, these conditions can significantly affect a child’s feeding experience and quality of life.

At Babble & Munch, our feeding therapists support children and families living with eosinophilic diseases, such as eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), by:
✔️ Screening for signs of gastrointestinal discomfort
✔️ Referring for medical assessment when needed
✔️ Building oral feeding skills and mealtime confidence
✔️ Supporting the feeling of safety, comfort and confidence around food

This week, we’re joining to raise awareness, share support, and advocate for kids and families with eosinophilic conditions. 💜

Is there pressure at your table? 🍽️

Many families use pressure without even realising it – it’s often instinctive and comes from love. You want your child to eat well, enjoy food, and feel good around meals.

But pressure (even the well-meaning kind) can sometimes make feeding harder – increasing stress, reducing intake, and fuelling fussy eating cycles. 🙊

This post explores what pressure can look like – and why a responsive approach can help shift the dynamic.

At Babble & Munch, we work with families to create calmer, more connected mealtimes. If you’d like support that’s tailored to your child, we’re here to help 💛
