Footwear can play its roll in altering a person's gait and the muscles patterns used. Always consider the shoes you use, particularly for walking and activity.

We enjoyed assisting this lady who presented to the clinic with a 6 month history of calf and medial (inside) ankle pain with walking.

You can see her natural barefoot loading gait pattern V's her loading pattern when using her current walking shoes. Increased challenges on tibialis posterior, FHL and the calf muscles while performing their roll during walking.

Understanding the roll of footwear and the various features of a shoe can be important in reducing risks of injury and maximise someones enjoyment of activity.

We can review your footwear and gait to assist you with the most appropriate options for your particular activity. Just like we were able to assess, identify and aid this ladies recovery and return to walking.

Happy walking... 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚶🚶‍♀️

Week 2 of lockdown is upon us Melbourne. It's a tough time and especially as this weather gets colder and colder. RUG UP and ensure you get outside at some point for a walk or just some fresh air and change of scenery. Pick a park (within your 10km) and explore. We are lucky to have some amazing green spaces around us to enjoy. It's important to keep moving and get outside during these periods! Keep safe and keep moving Melbourne! 🌥️❄️🧤🧦🧥👟🧣

World Mental Health Day.

Raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of mental health.

A great day to chat or reach out to those around you and check in on how they are feeling. It's on these days that we often reflect on how important mental health is. It is not always easy to see or identify.

We have all got our challenges and possibly even more broadly with recent world events. Reach out, encourage each other and support each other. I find it often comes back to you or follows on from your initial connection, when you offer your time and ears to others. We can each play a part in support of others and as a whole this can filter through to the broader community.

Celebrating International Podiatry Day!

A great time to reflect on the amazing job our feet and lower limbs do in our daily lives.
They are our base of support. The way our bodies interact with the ground. They take on huge loads and stresses each day as our first line shock absorber, for our bodies. They aid our balance and give us the freedom to walk, run, hop, skip and jump!

As Leonardo da Vinci said :
"the human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art"

Liz Who...?
The Lisfranc joint Injury - What is it all about.

Our blog series continues to follow the return of the AFL, with commentary on common foot, ankle and lower leg injuries. A large part of what we do at Fluid Movement Podiatry, is assist people with the management and rehabilitation of some of the more complex foot and ankle injuries. This post takes a look at the Lisfranc injury, which can certainly have its complexities.

Bone Stress Injuries...
We continue our series on common foot and ankle injuries in sport.
Bone stress injuries are seen within the foot and lower leg each year, from recreational runners through to AFL players. These types of injuries can sideline someone for long periods.

It is of interest to note that we are seeing an increase in these types of injuries in the clinic. Spikes in walking and running during Covid restrictions is most likely a contributing factor. Thought this would be a great time to highlight the ‘What, Where and Why’ of bone stress related injuries.
