Ever heard of dinner table syndrome? 🍽️

It’s the feeling of being left out when hearing loss makes it hard to follow fast, overlapping conversations at group gatherings.

If you're hosting family or friends with hearing loss this holiday season, small changes can make a big difference — from thoughtful seating and lower background music to better lighting and clear communication strategies.

Thank you to all who supported our Massive Murray Paddle and donated to Headspace. The BlueMind Team did you proud raising $5900 and taking Line Honours crossing first ahead of a field of about 60 boats. What a ride we had!

Message from Myriam:
I retired from clinical practice earlier this year, and today after 25 years of being an owner/director of DWM Audiology, I have stepped down.
Thank you to my colleagues, patients and friends for your loyal support.
I leave the clinic in the safe hands of Kate Moore, my co-director as well as close friend of many years. Thank you Kate for many years of harmonious and collaborative partnership, for allowing me a gently paced exit and for organising a wonderful and heartfelt farewell dinner with colleagues, family, friends and surprise guest, my buddy and fellow audiologist Alison Chiam.
Lots of emotions: sadness; pride and a sense of achievement in how the clinic has grown, in the success of our approach to personalised and ethical care, and that we have become known internationally for our tinnitus and hyperacusis programs; gratitude for a fabulous staff; curiosity and excitement for the next phase of life.
I will balance the joys of retirement with continuing to provide training, lectures, presentations and webinars in tinnitus and hyperacusis. Bring it on!

The powerful video in this article highlights the incredible work of ENT specialist Professor Kong and his team as they strive to improve ear health outcomes for children in regional and remote communities.

“I thought I was a bad mother,” says Marlie Matthews, tearfully. “I tried everything, but Marcus was getting more and more behind. He wasn’t speaking much and when he did, I couldn’t understand him. It was very hard on all of us.”

Audiation is the ability to comprehend music in your mind when there is no physical sound present.

While misophonia is an intense aversion to specific sounds, often sounds made by other people.

In this ABC Australian Story, Astrid Jorgensen, creator of Pub Choir, describes her strong reaction to “human-made noises like sniffing and coughing.” The episode follows Astrid’s remarkable journey from developing a detachment from music during high school, to rediscovering her passion through the creation of the world’s largest choir. Astrid possesses a rare ability to hear music entirely in her mind, allowing her to deconstruct complex harmonies and recreate them for her choir with extraordinary precision.

For all music lovers, brain lovers, and those challenged by sound, this is a must watch. Found on ABC iView and YouTube

Astrid Jorgensen played music as a child but a violin teacher destroyed her confidence. Then she created Pub Choir, a wildly popular act where Astrid teaches...
