Happy Mothers Day! ❤️

Love that I can help mums everyday in my job. Keeping strong, mobile and fit to keep up with whatever life throws at us. This especially true for me and keeping up with my toddler 😅

Hands up if you experience any of the above symptoms? 🙋🏻‍♀️

We know pelvic floor symptoms are common in both pre and post natal women, but it is not normal and you CAN do something about it.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, I highly recommend a review with a women’s health physiotherapist for diagnosis. Assessment and exercise programs provided by a women’s health physiotherapist and exercise physiologist can assist with your symptoms, so you don’t have to keep putting up with it 👏🏼

💫 12 months Post-Partum.

A milestone for any mumma. The first year. It goes so fast, yet so slow. I have learnt so much about myself and what the female body is truly capable of. The pregnancy, birth and post-partum journey is a major transformation both physically and mentally. These immense changes can challenge body acceptance. I see low body confidence and acceptance regularly with women in clinic. This usually starts at the initial assessment where we discuss goals. Goals such as losing the “baby weight” or “mum tum”, and returning to “normal” post baby.

What is normal? There are many pressures on mothers to “get back to normal” after that initial 6 week check up. The notion of returning to a pre-baby weight or body may not be a realistic one. Even myself as an allied health practitioner know this, however I still felt pressure to get back to my pre baby weight and fitness quickly. I always said to myself, it will take 12months. However, here I am 12 months post baby and still finding it difficult recognising my new body.

Societal pressures to look a certain way has a major impact on body image issues and what is “normal”. We need to change this. So ladies let’s start changing our goals to reflect this, as post-partum is not just at 6weeks, 6months or even 1 year post, it is forever.

Let focus on:

💛 Eating well for energy and feeling good
💛 Exercise for enjoyment and feel strong
💛 Sleep
💛 Drinking enough water
💛 Mental health

We see women at many stages of their lives, but nothing is more of a transformation like pregnancy and post partum. If you need some help doing the above. Get in contact today!

Perinatal Mental Health Week ✨

Perinatal anxiety and depression is common. We know 1 in 5 mums and 1 in 10 dads experience perinatal anxiety and/or depression. Although it is normal to experience a degree of anxiety and ups/downs when you are expecting or a new parent, some people experience more pronounced anxiety or low moods. This then effects daily life functioning.

Here are some signs and symptoms of antenatal/post-natal anxiety and depression:
🤍 Panic attacks
🤍 Persistent, generalised worry
🤍 Abrupt mood swings
🤍 Feeling nervous or panicky
🤍 Withdrawing from friends/family
🤍 Increased sensitivity to noise
🤍 Changes to appetite
🤍 Losing interest in activities that would usually bring joy
🤍 Constant sadness or crying

There is help available. Talk to your GP or trusted health professional, and call the PANDA Helpline.

We know exercise is beneficial pre/post pregnancy physically, however it is also very beneficial for your mental health. Exercise can make a big difference in mood and is a fundamental part of mental health treatment. Even one workout a week is now to have great benefits.

✨9 Australians die each day from breast cancer

✨In the last 10 years diagnoses have increased by 36%

So, please use this as a reminder to complete your breast check, book in for a mammogram or talk to your doctor if your unsure. 🎀

Day 4 of women’s health week and R U OK Day!!

Today is all about mental well-being and discussing what is our “new normal”? coping with the additional stressors of COVID-19

I know as a new mum it can be hard to prioritise your mental health. Anxiety depression is very common for new mummas. More than 1 in 7 new mums experience postnatal depression and anxiety. With the pressure cooker that is COVID 19 and lockdowns it is even more important to reach out if you are not ok.

Simply asking “are you ok” and “are you really ok” to your friends and/or family can make all the difference.

What will you do for your mental well-being today? I’m simply sitting and enjoying the sunshine with my puppy.
