World Diabetes Day is celebrated annually on the 14th of November, each year with key campaigns and messages. This year there are three key messages:
1. Diabetes challenges at work: 430 million people living with diabetes are of working age. In the workplace, they face challenges such as stigma, discrimination, exclusion, anxiety and lack of access to care and support for their well-being.

2. Unhealthy work environments: Many workplaces are an unhealthy environment for employees. The lack of access to physical activity, healthy food choices and support for mental well-being is harmful for people at risk of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.

3. Do more for diabetes at work: Employers must take action to create a safe, supportive and healthy work environment for people with diabetes and those at risk. Support our call to ‘know more and do for diabetes at work.’

If you want to get involved in World Diabetes Day this year and help you or your colleagues become more comfortable in the workplace, head to the World Diabetes Day website for more information.

Doctors at Equilibrium Healthcare are highly trained and equipped to help you manage your diabetes. Book online or call the practice.

This week is Occupational Therapy Week.
Occupational therapy is a person-centred approach to help individuals participate in activities they find meaningful. This could be taking care of yourself or others, working, volunteering, and participating in hobbies, interests and social events.
Paediatric Occupational therapy may help a child prepare for school and social situations by improving engagement, focus, friendship skills, coordination, emotional regulation, balance, fine and gross motor skills, and problem solving.
Gemma Williams is a paediatric occupational therapist at Equilibrium Healthcare. She uses a family centred approach to her clinical delivery. She has experience with many diagnostic groups and employs both functional and sensory intervention approaches.

If you have concerns about yourself or a loved one and feel an occupational therapist may be of use, book an appointment with a general practitioner to discuss this. Book online or by calling the practice.

Did you know that Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with 1 in 7 women developing it throughout their lifetime. It is the second leading cause of death and accounts for 27% of all cancers in NSW. Luckily, early detection means less invasive treatment and better outcomes.
You should be screened if you are:
Between the ages of 50-74 (every 2 years)
Over 40 with a strong family history or are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (every 2 years)

It is important to be familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel, and report any changes including lumps, discharge, skin changes or pain to your general practitioner.

If you are concerned about your breast health or want to discuss the results of your mammogram, book an appointment with a general practitioner at Equilibrium Healthcare. Book online or call the practice.

James continues to inspire us all — not only through his commitment to helping patients move better every day, but also by leading through example in fitness, dedication, and performance.

Well done, James — a truly world-class effort from a local champion!

Lung cancer is the number 1 cause of cancer death in Australia with over 15, 000 cases diagnosed last year in Australia. If caught early, lung cancer can often be treated successfully. Screening is new, as of July 2025 and is a low-dose CT scan that can find small changes in the lungs before they cause symptoms.
Lung cancer screening is free for anyone ages 50-70 and who:
Smokes now or quit within the past 10 years and have smoked
Has smoked for many years (ie. 1 pack/day for 30 years)
Book an appointment with a general practitioner if you have concerns about your health. Book online or call the practice.

Prostate Cancer is a slow-growing cancer that can be asymptomatic and affect 1 in every 6 Australian men. It is most common between men aged 67-70 but men over the age of 50 are at risk. Early detection allows for early, less invasive treatment, making screening important for your health. Screening can be completed through a simple blood test, and no longer requires the old ‘digital’ re**al exam. This screening may be escalated to an MRI or specialist referral if needed.
Read the following for screening recommendations:
Men aged 50-69 should be screened every 2 years
Men ages 45-69, with moderate risk and a family history, should be screened every 2 years
Men aged 40-69, with a strong family history, should be screened every 2 years
If you are due for a screening or worried about your health, book an appointment with a general practitioner consulting at Equilibrium Healthcare.

10/10/2025

World Mental Health Day is a day to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world, as well as in our community, and to increase efforts to support mental health. It is a reminder that there is no health without mental health.
This year’s campaign focuses on the urgent need to support the mental health and psychosocial needs of people affected by humanitarian emergencies.
Crises such as natural disasters, conflicts, and public health emergencies cause emotional distress, with one in five individuals experiencing a mental health condition. Supporting the mental well-being of individuals during such crises is not just important – it saves lives, gives people the strength to cope, the space to heal and to recover and rebuild not only as individuals but as communities.

On this World Mental Health Day, let us improve our efforts to create a world where mental health is valued, protected, and accessible for all.

If you are concerned about your mental health or that of a loved one, book an appointment with a general practitioner at Equilibrium Healthcare. Please note, these appointments should be booked for 30 minutes to allow enough time for thorough care. Book online or call the practice.
