Non judging has helped me so much in my life and it is a constant practice I Instill in my life. It’s important to identify when we are judging others but as the old saying goes “we are our own worst critics” and this is so true!

Judging ourselves is where the conditioning has really started. “I’m not good enough, I’m so stupid, I always mess everything up!” “ I SHOULD have done it like that! Etc etc!

Isn’t it exhausting? So how do we create distance between ourselves and this constant stream? One method is to simply observe, describe and practice a non judgemental stance:

A NONJUDGMENTAL STANCE: Judging something as neither good nor bad. Everything simply is as it is. Focusing on just the facts and when we notice the judging, and we will, just say I’m having a judging thought and that’s ok because I’m only human.

Instead of “ I’m not a good enough mother” “I’m a mother just doing my best with what I have!”

We all have to start somewhere and truly connecting with non judgemental thinking will be a Like a breathe of fresh air! Trust me, there were times where I was a wreck and self criticism was creeping insidiously into my life, especially when I was under stress. Just remember STOP take a breathe and proceed mindfully 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

Non-Judging
As an example, let’s say you are practicing watching your breathing. At a certain point, you may find your mind saying something like, “This is boring,” or “This isn’t working,” or “I can’t do this.” These are judgments. When they come up in your mind, it is very important to recognize them as judgmental thinking and remind yourself that the practice involves suspending judgment and just watching whatever comes up, including your own judging thoughts, without pursuing them or acting on them in any way. Then proceed with watching your breathing.- Jon Kabat-Zinn

What does it really mean to be trauma informed?

When working with vulnerable people it is important to be properly qualified. I have completed many workshops in trauma informed care and always allow my clients space to share what they feel comfortable with but also provide them with tools to actually manage the symptoms of their trauma in a safe space.

As a mental health practitioner you need to know where your expertise ends and to keep learning and constantly growing. This book really helped me understanding the complexities and layers to trauma and I found the chapters on the origins of PTSD extremely interesting.

Having a long history of working with first responders I found this book really helped me in my practice but also in my own experience of trauma in my life. Have you read this book or have any good recommendations for working in the trauma space?
