By mid-January, the decorations are packed away… but grief doesn’t follow the calendar.

If you know someone who is grieving, this is often the time they feel it most, when the busyness has eased and the quiet returns. Today, consider a simple check-in: a text, a phone call, a short visit, or dropping off a coffee. No perfect words needed, just presence.

And if you’re the one carrying loss right now, be gentle with yourself. Healing isn’t about “moving on”, it’s about learning to carry love in a new way, one day at a time.

From Ross Funerals, we’re proud to stand with our communities across Maryborough, Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast, not only in the hardest moments, but in the weeks and months that follow. 🤍

January can feel strange after the rush of Christmas, the phone stops ringing, the visitors go home, and the quiet returns.

If you’re grieving, give yourself permission to go slowly this month. Healing isn’t about “moving on”, it’s about learning how to carry love and loss together.

A few gentle ways to take care of yourself:
• Keep routines simple
• Get outside, even for 10 minutes
• Talk to someone you trust
• Write down one memory you’d like to keep close

And if you’re supporting someone else: keep checking in. Grief often feels loneliest once Christmas is over. ❤️

As the year turns over, grief doesn’t reset at midnight.

If you’re heading into the New Year without someone you love, you may feel out of step with the celebrations around you, and that’s completely normal. A new year can bring hope, but it can also bring the sharp realisation that they aren’t here to step into it with you.

Wherever you are today, hopeful, heartbroken, or somewhere in between, we’re wishing you a gentle start to the year and the support of good people around you.

Happy New Year from Ross Funerals. 🎆 ❤️

Christmas Day can be comforting for some, and incredibly hard for others, especially when someone you love is missing from the table.

If today feels heavy, please know you’re not alone. There’s no correct way to do Christmas Day while grieving. You might join in, step away, cry, laugh, or simply get through the hours as quietly as you need to.

If it helps, consider one small moment of remembrance, a candle, a toast, a favourite photo, or saying their name out loud. Love still belongs here, even in the ache.

From all of us at Ross Funerals, we’re thinking of families across Maryborough, Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast today, and holding space for those missing someone especially dearly. 🤍🎄
