Thinking of your New Year’s resolutions? Maybe look inward not outward. Of course easy for me to say after years of looking outward!

Facing trauma, coping mechanisms that are unhealthy, minimisimg stressful lifestyles and connections through healing childhood wounds, leads to the healthier ways to live. Bypassing this and the new healthy resolutions often don’t stick.

So, meditate, book a therapy session, start journal writing, anything that feels right for you to release trauma, stress and attachment to patterns of behaviours that keep you stuck. Then new ones can and will develop.

As a parent working with in the field of mental health I’ve try to shield a lot of mental health from my children.

But they know, all children know.

It’s so much more prevalent, known, experienced than when I was their age. I wish they didn’t know or didn’t see as much as they do. That my job as a mental health practitioner in schools is not normalised. Truly how did we get here? Not sure, but here we are.

One thing I did not expect, but am so proud of is my daughter backing Black Dog a foundation without any encouragement by me, an organisation I’ve done free training with so I can support people in the lowest times of their lives. Training which I’m sure is subsidised by people like my daughter doing something as simple (for her maybe not others) as running.

If you have some spare change I can assure you it gets out to people, even out to people like me, who then go on to support a lot more 😊

Together, we can help create better mental health for all.

So true. Working with a lot of new and young Mums it’s tough, especially when trauma, violence and other things are added to their lives.

Can we talk about the fact that mums get overstimulated and it’s mistaken for anger..?
No, I’m not angry; I’m just trying to sooth a screaming baby, while hearing mum mum mum, with the tv on full volume, the dishwasher going, some random person mowing their lawn, my phone dinging non stop, my tops too tight, my hair isn’t in a messy bun correctly, there’s crumbs on the floor I can feel stuck to my socks.
I’m not angry I’m ✨overstimulated✨ and need a minute to get myself together 😫
Motherhood is incredibly exhausting.
No matter what someone always needs you.
Go to work; someone needs you, come home; someone needs you, go to sleep; someone needs you, shower time; someone needs you, going to the bathroom; someone needs you. A child, a baby, an adult
Please. Let me collect myself before you start to accuse me of being in a bad mood.
