Shingles risk increases with age — and it’s more common than many people realise.
Around 1 in 3 people will develop shingles in their lifetime. After 50, natural changes in immunity can increase your risk.

Shingles can cause a painful blistering rash and, in some cases, long-lasting nerve pain that affects day-to-day life.

This Shingles Action Week, we’re encouraging patients aged 50 and over to have a conversation with their GP about their individual risk and what prevention options may be appropriate for them.

Persistent bloating isn’t always “just hormones.”

During Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, we’re encouraging women to be aware of subtle but important symptoms.

Ovarian cancer can present with:
• Ongoing bloating
• Pelvic or abdominal pain
• Feeling full quickly
• Changes in bladder habits

These symptoms are common and often caused by other conditions — but if they are new, persistent, or unusual for you, it’s important to have them assessed.

Look what arrived in the mail.

Dr Nadiesh Seneviratne has received formal recognition as an Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor through the Skin Cancer College Australasia.

This accreditation reflects additional training and assessment in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer.

Dr Nadiesh recently completed his Master of Medicine (Skin Cancer) through The University of Queensland, further strengthening the level of advanced skin cancer care available locally in Hervey Bay.

With Queensland having some of the highest skin cancer rates in the world, early detection is critical.

🌟 Doctor Spotlight: Dr Tin Aung

As part of our Doctor Spotlight series, this week we’re highlighting Dr Tin Aung, one of our experienced female GPs here at Main Street Medical Centre.

Dr Aung is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and brings over a decade of international and Australian clinical experience to the Hervey Bay community.

She has a strong clinical focus on:
• Women’s health — including contraception, cervical screening and menopause care
• Chronic disease management — supporting patients with diabetes and high blood pressure
• Preventive health and long-term wellbeing
• Family medicine — caring for patients from infants through to older adults

Many women in Hervey Bay value having access to a female GP they feel comfortable speaking openly with — whether it’s for routine screening, menopause support, or ongoing health concerns. Dr Aung provides a calm, supportive environment where patients feel heard and respected.

Yesterday was Primary Health Care Nurses Day, and we simply couldn’t let it pass without taking a moment to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary nursing team at Main Street Medical Centre.

Our nurses are not just part of our practice — they are absolutely integral to who we are and how we care for our community. The skill, compassion, leadership and quiet problem-solving they bring every single day underpins everything we do. We truly would not be half the practice we are today without them.

✨ Tash is the calm at the centre of the storm — keeping the entire practice organised, leading the nursing team with clarity and confidence, and somehow always having the answer to every question thrown her way.
✨ Steph, our diabetes-educated registered nurse, goes above and beyond for our patients — supporting diabetes care, managing DVA work, and reviewing patient records to continually improve outcomes and long-term care.
✨ Eb is our childhood health queen, and for many of our older patients, she is their nurse — the familiar, trusted face they come to see time and time again.
✨ Neita is an exceptional all-rounder with outstanding patient rapport — warm, capable, and deeply trusted by both patients and colleagues.
✨ Cheryl brings kindness, positivity and professionalism to every interaction — her calm, respectful manner never goes unnoticed.
