This is a permanent part-time role (approx. 10 hrs/week) across Monday & Thursday, working alongside our full-time admin officer to help take our client experience to the next level.

➕🚦 How Much Pain Is Okay in Training? The Traffic Light System of Pain with Exercise 🚦➕ 

🤔 One of the questions we hear all the time in the clinic is: 

“Should I stop exercising when I feel pain?” 

or 

“How much pain is actually okay when training or rehabbing?” 

🚀 Great questions, because pain doesn’t always mean damage… but how it behaves matters. 

A simple way we explain this is with... 

🚦The Traffic Light System 🚦 


🟢 Green = keep going 
🟡 Yellow = adjust the load 
🔴 Red = stop & reassess 

Understanding this helps you stay active without fear, build strength safely, and avoid flare-ups. 

In a nutshell... 

✨ Pain ≠ harm 
✨ Avoiding movement for long periods isn’t the answer 
✨ Learning to load safely = better recovery 

💪 When we respect the signals, your body builds resilience instead of becoming more sensitive  

🙌 And rehab becomes something you feel confident doing, not scared of.

🦷 Today, our Jaw Physios, Kelsey & Darcy, teamed up with the awesome crew at Health Partners Dental to dive into all things TMD (that means jaw pain and dysfunction). 

👉 Here’s what we unpacked: 

🔹 The different types of TMD and what’s really behind them 
🔹 How your neck, posture, and even stress can mess with your jaw 
🔹 The surprising role of sleep and teeth grinding (bruxism) 
🔹 How physios can help ease pain, improve movement, and keep things on track long-term 

💡 We also explored how dentists and physios can join forces to tackle jaw issues from every angle and deliver better outcomes for patients.

➕ Is Your Pelvic Floor Weak… or Tight? 🤔 ➕

Leaks, urgency or pelvic pain? Most think they need to “squeeze” more — but sometimes the real issue isn’t weakness… it’s tightness! 😮

💡 What’s the difference?

✅ Weak Pelvic Floor
👉 Muscles are underactive, lengthened, or can’t generate a proper squeeze
👉 Can’t support your bladder, bowel or pelvic organs effectively
👉 Symptoms: leaks, heaviness, prolapse
👉 Needs: Strengthening (Kegels) done correctly

✅ Tight (Overactive) Pelvic Floor
👉 Muscles are always tense and can’t relax
👉 May feel ‘strong’ but are overworked and dysfunctional
👉 Symptoms: pain with s*x, trouble emptying bladder/bowel, urgency, or leaking
👉 Needs: Releasing and relaxation before strengthening

🔍 Same Symptoms, Different Causes

Both can lead to:
1️⃣ Bladder issues (urgency, frequency, leaking)
2️⃣ Bowel issues (constipation, incomplete emptying, wind/stool leakage)
3️⃣ Sexual symptoms (pain, pressure, leakage during s*x)

🔑 The underlying cause — tightness vs weakness — needs different treatment.

✨ Why a Pelvic Physio Assessment Matters

You can’t tell just by guessing — this is where an individual pelvic floor exam with a qualified physio can help!  

📌 Kegels for tight muscles can worsen symptoms
📌 Sometimes breathwork & stretching are the answer — not more squeezes

💬 Takeaway
✔️ Not all pelvic floors need Kegels
✔️ Sometimes RELAXATION comes before STRENGTH
✔️ The right exercises make all the difference
