Carers Outlook

Carers Outlook Our focus is to provide support and information for people with dementia and their carers.

We understand the challenges of the caring role, professionally and personally. We volunteer our time and open our home to family carers so they can have the much needed and deserved respite. Carers need to rest for their own health and to sustain the caring role. Our home, Carers Outlook, sits in a rural peaceful setting on the Sunshine Coast, at Nambour within 30 mins from beach and mountain ranges. The home, with its four queen sized bedrooms, living space, pool, home cooked meals and an open, flexible and relaxed atmosphere has given respite to over 250 stays. There is no routine but the freedom for the carers to rest according to their needs.

Today marks the beginning of National Carers Week (12-18 October), a time to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution carers make to our nation.

The theme for this year’s campaign is “You are one, know one or will be one” which highlights a powerful truth: caring is a journey that most of us will take at some stage in our lives.

Carers are everyday people who provide unpaid care and support to a loved one. 1 in 8 Australians is a carer , which represents 11.9 % of Australia’s population.

Behind every statistic is a carer. They can be family members, friends, or neighbours.

It's possible that someone in your family or workplace is already a carer. It's possible you see yourself as a parent, child, family member, friend, or partner, but you could be one of Australia’s 3 million unpaid carers.

Care is everywhere and this week provides an opportunity for people who have a caring responsibility to identify themselves as carers and access the supports and services they need.

Get involved- this Carers Week, show carers you care, extend a helping hand or simply recognise the enormous contribution of carers.

Carers Australia joined the roundtable on workforce participation, hosted yesterday by Minister Tanya Plibersek.

This is part of a series of economic reform roundtables led by Minister Plibersek and Mark Butler MP, and a valuable opportunity to keep the needs of Australia’s 3 million carers on the national agenda.

We’re advocating for stronger support to help carers participate in the workforce.
