In Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn corresponds with the metal element which is governed by the lungs and large intestine. This season invites us to slow down as we transition from the active yang energy of summer into the stillness and reflection of winter. 🍂

Just as trees shed their leaves, autumn encourages us to let go and release what no longer serves us. The metal element is closely tied to the powerful emotions of grief and loss, which may manifest physically as breathing difficulties, skin complaints, constipation or a weakened immune system.

When in disharmony, the metal element can give rise to feelings of worthlessness and abandonment leading to a constant need to prove one's worth or value.

This is a time to breathe deeply, let go of old habits and clutter, and prepare your body and mind for the cooler months ahead.

Too often we ignore the signs of prolonged stress and keep pushing through, relentless in our endeavours to uphold the persona that everything is wonderful and life is a breeze.

Stress is not a sign of weakness, nor is it indicative we are inadequate or have failed. The reality is we are not superheroes; we don’t need to be courageous, strong and invincible, and we don’t need to save everyone or leap tall buildings in a single bound. 🦸‍♀️

Acknowledging you need help and seeking support shows strength, courage and resilience … which is the greatest superpower of them all.

Are your limiting beliefs holding you back?

Limiting beliefs are perceptions formed through your life experiences. They shape how you see the world, the choices you make, and even your sense of self. At their core, they’re your body’s way of keeping you safe, but sometimes what once protected you can start to hold you back.

Over time, these beliefs can inhibit your progress, amplify fears and self-doubt, and even lead to self-sabotage. Because they’re often stored deep within the subconscious, you may not even realise they’re there.

Some common examples include:

👉 I must work hard to be successful.
👉 If I’m useful, I will be included.
👉 It’s selfish to prioritise myself.
👉 Being vulnerable is a sign of weakness
👉 I need to be perfect to be loved.

Kinesiology works directly with the subconscious to help your body recognise that these old stories are no longer true or necessary, so you can release them.

When clients share the issues they’re experiencing, one of the first things I think about is why? I’ve always believed there’s more to discover beyond the obvious symptoms that have appeared.

🤔 Why are you experiencing pain?
🤔 Why is it hard to make the changes you want in your life?
🤔 Why do you struggle to move on from a challenging event?
🤔 Why do certain triggers bring such strong reactions?
🤔 Why do you feel the need to always ‘do’ more?
🤔 Why do you keep putting others’ needs before your own?

Understanding your ‘why’ forms the foundation of each Kinesiology session. By drawing on the philosophies of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the principles of mind body medicine, we begin to see how your symptoms are connected, helping uncover the root cause.

Whenever I saw health professionals in the past, I always thought they must have life all sorted. They seemed so wise and grounded, so surely they’d solved their problems and uncovered the secret to the perfect life. 🤷‍♀️

But now that I’m here, holding space and supporting others, I realise that’s not quite how it works. My ducks are definitely not all in a row (in fact, I think I may have lost a duck or two since going through menopause). 🙄🥴🦆

Yes, I’ve come a long way and overcome some huge hurdles, but I still have more healing to do. To be the best I can be, I keep seeking support from other practitioners and tending to my own physical, emotional and energetic health.

The stories I share are real - the highs, the lows, and all the ‘work in progress’. I’m not perfect, and I’m finally in a place where that almost feels OK.

It’s from this place of honesty that I can truly be there for others. Because we’re all just doing our best to find balance, one step at a time.

Your thoughts and self-talk shape your energy. When you believe in yourself and focus on positive outcomes, your mind and body begin to align with that possibility.

But if you tell yourself you’ll fail, aren’t worthy or can’t do it - you’ll probably be right! 😬

As you move toward your goals, notice your self-talk - is it supporting you or keeping you stuck?

In Kinesiology and Mind Body Medicine, I often talk about yin and yang, the two complementary forces that describe balance in the body and mind. When one becomes depleted or overactive, imbalance can show up in the body as tension, fatigue, pain or emotional overwhelm.

Here’s a simple way to look at them:

Yin (left side of the body)
☯️ Feminine
☯️ Stillness, rest, receptivity
☯️ Internal focus
☯️ Cool
☯️ Dark

Yang (right side of the body)
☯️ Masculine
☯️ Doing, action, movement
☯️ Outward focus
☯️ Warmth
☯️ Light

When I combine this understanding with your physical symptoms and emotional patterns, we can begin to explore deeper questions such as:

👉 Are you constantly on the go and find rest uncomfortable?
👉 Are you finding it difficult to connect inwardly or feel vulnerable?
👉 Do you have challenges with a male or female in your life?
👉 Is there tension in your internal (home) or external (work) environment?
👉 Do you spend more time focusing on others rather than yourself?

Are you someone who gets caught up in the busyness of life, becoming disconnected and losing touch with how you truly feel?

What if you paused for a moment, stepped away from the chaos, and tuned in? 🧘‍♀️

Find a quiet space and check in:

💙 What’s weighing on your mind? Is anything causing frustration, stress or worry?
💙 What feelings arise when you focus on this situation?
💙 How does your body feel? Notice any tension, tightness, heaviness or discomfort?

Instead of pushing these sensations away, acknowledge what comes up in your body. Breathe into it. Stay present with it. Simply observe any shifts or changes.

Even just a few minutes of self-awareness can help you to reconnect, bringing you out of your busy mind, back into your body and restoring a sense of alignment.
