Today, with the help of AMA Australian Medical Association - Tasmania and the instigation of one very dedicated doctor we hosted our first casual morning tea for retired doctors, providing a welcoming space to reconnect.

We were extremely fortunate to be joined by Dr. Ruth Kearon, Head of the Tasmanian School of Medicine, who shared updates on the school, and AMA Tasmania CEO Lara Giddings, both of whom thoroughly enjoyed the morning and welcomed discussions on ways retired doctors can continue contributing to the medical community. It is vital for doctors to have a rounded life with other interests outside of medicine, and to nurture relationships outside of work.

There are plans afoot for another gathering February in Hobart and one in the north as well - so watch this space.

On June 1st, Drs4Drs Tasmania was so lucky to be joined by Professor Michael Kidd, Dr. Andrew Mulcahy, Dr. Annette Barratt, Dr. Juliet Tait, and many dedicated doctors and medical students from across the state. Together, we spent the morning focused on what it looks like to support our own health and by doing so patients and others in the medical field, especially during life's challenging periods.

We are incredibly grateful to our outgoing Medical Director, Dr. Annette Barratt, and warmly welcome Dr. Juliet Tait. A heartfelt thank you to Professor Kidd, Dr. Mulcahy, and all participants for their time and insights. Your contributions are invaluable in helping us spread this vital message of support and resilience. Drs4Drs Tasmania

Day is tomorrow Friday, 7 June. Although this is only one day of the year, protecting doctors mental health at work and decreasing stigma for all health professionals experiencing mental health issues is every day of the year. There is still a lot of work to be done.

Read here: A doctor’s deeply personal plea to fix the crisis at the heart of the medical profession. Medicine is failing to take care of its own – and the consequences can be disastrous. For the first time, Australian Medical Association head Stephen Robson describes in shocking detail what almost became the final day of his life.

It was hardly a salubrious setting for what was almost the final day of my life. A sparsely furnished tiny brick box of a flat, oppressively warm even at night, an easy walk from the Rockhampton Base Hospital where I worked as a junior doctor. I had carefully laid out a large sheet of black plasti...
