Excessive ear wax production is NOT a sign of poor hygiene. Several factors contribute to wax build-up:
Narrow, bendy, or hairy ear canals
Natural overproduction of cerumen (some people produce more)
Ear canal shape and angle
Hearing aid use - disrupts natural wax migration
Regular earbud/earphone use - blocks airflow and pushes wax deeper
Cotton bud use - pushes wax down the canal
Wearing earplugs frequently - interferes with self-cleaning
Working in dusty environments - ears produce more wax for protection
Stress - can increase wax production
Swimming/surfing in cold water - stimulates wax production
None of these factors relate to cleanliness; they're simply how your body responds to its environment and anatomy.
