Meet Michael Morgan, the Pharmacist in Charge at Friendly Care Advantage Pharmacy Hobart in Tasmania.
Michael has been a retail pharmacist for 10 years now. He enjoys his job due to its “problem solving nature,” the ability to experience “a variety of different customers” and the opportunity to assist, help and educate customers.
He was introduced to the pharmaceutical industry as a young child, by a family friend who was a pharmacist. This career choice intrigued Michael and later in life, he decided he wanted to pursue a profession in health, initially wanting to be a doctor but in the end deciding on pharmacy.
During the current global pandemic, he has noticed some changes. Initially it got very busy, with the panic, customers were wanting to ensure their medicine cabinets were up to date and full, these were describe by Michael as, “the busiest weeks and months on record.” After emphasis on staying home had increased, it became less busy. Some precautions have been put in place at the store, such as regular hand washing and social distancing. To ensure this is being practiced, there is tape on the floor and some signs.
Michael noted that customers and staff are mostly following guidelines and social distancing measures, but it is very hard to have conversations with customers at times because of the barriers. Despite this, Michael has been able to remain calm and still enjoys coming to work.
Michael and his team have been working very hard to ensure customers still get the best care and service during these uncertain times. Without a strong team of staff this would have been very difficult.
