This is Peter. 😎
Two weeks ago, on Valentine’s Day, he had a radical prostatectomy. 💘
“My GP first picked up a problem when I asked for a PSA test. He asked me why I wanted one – I looked at him and replied that I believe in science. 💪
“My results were unusual, with a free to total PSA ratio that landed me in a risk group. I very quickly did my homework on what that meant. Testing and retesting resulted in a consultation with a trusted urologist, who recommended an MRI. 🤞
“The MRI picked up a spot on the outer peripheral of my prostate and a transperineal biopsy confirmed the diagnosis – Gleason 7, Stage 2C, intermediate risk. 😬
“I saw a surgeon and radiation oncologist about treatment. My options were RP surgery or MRLinac radiation. Both incredibly good treatments.
"At the core of my being, I didn’t want to risk erectile dysfunction if I went through with surgery, but I bit the bullet and booked a radical prostatectomy. 🙏
“Five days before the op, my mind was going crazy. The day before I was at peak panic. I told myself I had to nail my anxiety to the floor and command rationality. 💯
“My immediate family, along with a supportive surgeon and radiation oncologist helped enormously. ✊
“Tomorrow will be two weeks post-surgery. Early indications are that 95% of my nerves have been spared and my continence concerns have been relatively minor so should correct soon – you can bet I’m doing those pelvic floor exercises. 🤠
“My advice to other men is to get active, talk to your mates and pull your head out of the sand. Once you enter planet prostate you’re in a whole different orbit and you need to get your proverbial sh*t together to beat it. 😎
“At first I didn’t tell my friends and family. I was protecting them and protecting myself. All of us are just doing the best we can, but I’ll say one thing – staying connected counts for a lot.”
"Get your GP to test you if you are eligible and get to a Urologist." ❤️
Cheers for being a champion Peter - and here's to a strong recovery. 💙✊
