☀️ Supporting young people through the holidays.
Summer holidays can be a joyful time, but they can also bring challenges for some young people..
Changes in routine, more screen time, and less connection with friends can affect their wellbeing.

headspace are running a free, anonymous web-based chat on Wednesday 3 December (today)to connect with other adults supporting young people. You can drop in or leave at any time. Together, we'll explore practical ways to help your young person feel supported over the holidays. You don’t have to navigate this alone. Tap the link to register and set a reminder for the chat.

December 1 is World AIDS Day and this year's theme is “No one left behind.”

It's all about making sure everyone gets fair access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and support. It highlights that some communities—like our First Nations peoples, people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and those living in regional or remote areas—still face barriers that others don’t.

It also reminds us that Australia has a role in supporting global efforts to end HIV, and that stigma and discrimination are still big issues that stop people from getting the help they need.

Overall, it’s a call for all of us to work together to create safe, supportive spaces where people living with HIV can feel respected, included, and free from stigma.

From 10 December, big changes are coming to social media for under 16’s.
Not all platforms will be affected in the same way, so it's a good idea to stay informed, start preparing, and begin talking with your young person about how the changes might affect them.
Meta has just announced that from 4 December, they will begin removing access to Instagram, Threads, and Facebook for under 16’s and will begin blocking the creation of new accounts for under 16’s. To give people enough time to save their contacts and memories, Meta have started notifying impacted young people!
If you need help navigating these changes, visit our social media ban resource hub to learn more head to headspace.org.au

This week we delivered our final Study Skills and Self Care sessions for students at our four colleges around the Hobart area.

Along with exchanging tips and tricks for effective study, and making space for the little things we can do for self care, we distributed a range of resources to help students with their upcoming tasks, including a study planner developed by our work and Study Peer Worker Joe.

Thankyou to .college and for having us along to chat with your amazing students, and thankyou to Health Council of Tasmania for our Mental Health Week grant, and our headspace Day grant from .

Now to practice some of that self- care we've been talking about!!
