BLIND LOVE AUSTRALIA - casting call
Casting applications are now open for a brand-new documentary series in development, Blind Love Australia.
The producers of Blind Love Australia are looking for single blind and vision impaired Tasmanians in their 20s – 40s who are ready to put themselves out there in the search for love.
Based on the PBS web series, Blind Love, the series will follow six blind and vision impaired Australians in their quest for love. With the support of family and friends, each is determined to find "the one". Each participant seeks to be seen and understood for who they truly are. They don’t want pity, they want meaningful, lasting relationships.
Blind Love Australia will be a fun, warm, candid, and uplifting series that will challenge stereotypes, and debunk myths about what it means to be blind. Their goal is to amplify voices from a population that is often overlooked and showcase the lives of participants authentically beyond their vision impairment.

🔒 Stronger online security starts with updated software!

It's Cyber Security Awareness Month, and now is the perfect time to keep your devices and software up to date.

Any device or app that connects to the internet should always be kept up to date. Why? Updates often include important fixes that keep your data and devices secure.

If you use assistive technology, consider a service maintenance agreement or subscription to make sure your software stays current. Updates don’t just fix problems; they can also bring new features that make your tech more accessible and easier to use.

💡 Cyber Safety Tip: Turn on automatic updates so you never miss important security improvements or accessibility upgrades.

Want to boost your cyber safety skills? We're offering a series of free workshops and 1:1 sessions for people with vision impairment, proudly supported by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Spaces are limited - register your interest today and learn how to stay cyber smart: https://forms.office.com/r/0VHpApGzUa

Happy International White Cane Day! 🦯

The long white cane, also known as a mobility cane, is used to discover obstructions early to allow a person with vision impairment to navigate safely.

It is more than just a mobility tool - it’s a symbol of freedom, safety, and confidence for people living with low or no vision.

Here's what you 'Cane Do' to help white cane users in the community:
💬 Offer assistance, but always ask first.
🚶 Give space and stay alert when someone is using their cane.
⚠️ Report hazards in public areas to your local council.

At VisAbility, we’re proud to support people in discovering the mobility aids and training that best suit their needs. From the traditional long cane, to the latest in smart mobility technology, our team is here to help you move through the world.

What an incredible day we had at the Disability Expo Tasmania in Launceston last week! 🎉

We were proud to join forces with our sister brand, Guide Dogs Tasmania, to showcase our services and connect with so many wonderful community members.

Of course, the biggest crowd-pleasers were Yarra and Yana, who stole the show (and a few hearts) with their endless cuddles. 🐶

A huge thank you to everyone who came by to say hello - we enjoyed every conversation, smile, and wagging tail!

Last week, we had a great time at the Speak Out Gearing Up Disability Expo in Hobart. Joining forces with our friends at Guide Dogs Tasmania, including Facility Dog Molly and Guide Dog in Training Reggie, it was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our wider Hobart community. These expos allow us to meet new people and share information about our services and supports for people with low or no vision across Tasmania. 👩‍🦯🐕‍🦺

Our team spoke with attendees about a range of topics, including orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and various therapy options. We had a great time and are already looking forward to the next expo in Launceston on Wednesday 17 September. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and see you in Launnie next week! 👋
