What Yoga is really about…
1. “You have to be flexible to do yoga.”
• Flexibility is not a prerequisite—it’s something yoga helps you develop over time. Yoga is about meeting yourself where you are.
2. “Yoga is only for women.”
• Yoga was originally practiced mainly by men in ancient times. Today, it’s for everyone, regardless of gender, age, or background.
3. “Yoga is just stretching.”
• While yoga improves mobility, it’s also about breath, mindfulness, nervous system regulation, strength, balance, and inner connection.
4. “You need to be young/fit/thin to do yoga.”
• Yoga is adaptable for all ages, body types, and fitness levels. Props, modifications, and gentle practices make it accessible to everyone.
5. “Yoga is a religion.”
• Yoga is a spiritual practice, but not a religion. People from all faiths (or none) practice yoga for health, well-being, and inner peace.
6. “You need expensive clothes and gear.”
• All you really need is a comfortable space and yourself. A yoga mat can help, but it’s not essential.
7. “Yoga takes too much time.”
• Even 5–10 minutes of mindful movement or breathing can bring benefits. It doesn’t need to be a 90-minute class.
8. “Yoga is only about relaxation.”
• Some practices are deeply calming, but others are dynamic, strengthening, and energising. Yoga adapts to what you need.
9. “Yoga is about doing ‘perfect poses.’”
• It’s not about performance or comparison—it’s about how you feel inside, not how it looks from the outside.
10. “If I can’t meditate, I can’t do yoga.”
• Yoga itself is a pathway to stillness. Even if your mind is busy, the practice helps create calm over time.
