When our team member Hailey attended a first time parents group with her daughter, one of the first tips the facilitator gave the group was to "Talk with your baby." This is also a strategy that is often given to parents to support their child's language development.

But if you haven't worked with kids before or never really been around kids, what does "Talk with your baby/toddler" look like? Where do you even start? What kind of sentences could you use?

The Helipad are putting together some free handouts for families to help give them ideas of different words and phrases that they can say during everyday routines. We are calling them our "Everyday Routine Buddies." This "Preparing Veggies Everyday Routine Buddy" gives you some ideas of what you can say when you are preparing vegetables for dinner, snacks or even to put in sandwiches. You can find it over on our website under "Resources", along with two others. We will slowly add more to create a little library.

We are back for Term 3! We hope everyone had a fantastic break and we are looking forward to seeing all of our families.

The Helipad team caught up over the break for dinner followed by painting. We missed Charlotte but glad that she is feeling better and back in the clinic today. Dom did make some space for her in the photo 😊

We love using wordless videos in our sessions! One of our kiddies asked if we could post one of the videos to them. We were able to send the link to their parents instead 😊

We have been working from home again for most of this term. Fortunately we can still connect with each other at our Monday team meetings via Zoom. We also usually have an end of term get together, and this term it will be an online trivia night. We hope to be back at The Helipad in Term 4 so we can see all of our families again!! Stay safe everyone. The Helipad Team ❤

We learned all about the rain cycle in our last book club! It seemed fitting with our crazy spring weather. We made rainbow rice cakes and crepe paper rainbows 🌧🌈

We love incorporating Sounds Write lessons in our sessions. Here we are working on word building, segmenting sounds, sounding out words and blending

It's a banana split kind of day! We love cooking and making snacks in our sessions. We can target so many skills in cooking activities, including following instructions, asking questions, reading comprehension, problem solving and self-care skills

The kids LOVED doing these simple Halloween inspired crafts in our book club on the weekend. We found these at our local Perfect for practising fine motor skills and keeping little hands busy! This craft kit comes with thread and paint, but we used textas instead so we didn't have to wait for them to dry.
