Low back pain that keeps coming back isn't always just "tight muscles". For some people it may be linked to an underlying inflammatory condition called Spondyloarthritis (SpA).⁠

This week, the Symmetry team had the opportunity to learn from Dr Carol McCrum, who presented on Spondyloarthritis recognition and referral guidance for physiotherapists treating low-back pain presentations.⁠

🔷The importance of screening for potential Spondyloarthitis in patients ⁠

🔷When to suspect Axial and Peripheral Spondyloarthritis ⁠

🔷Common inflammatory back pain features ⁠

🔷Who to refer your patients on to for best care practices⁠

Great to have some of our team attending the Sports Medicine Australia Conference 2025 in Hobart over the weekend.⁠

It was an inspiring weekend joining Clinicians, researchers and sports professionals from across Australia to explore the latest in sports medicine, rehabilitation and performance.⁠

Highlights included sessions on personalised sports medicine using muscle-level MRI, RED's prevention and early intervention, hamstring injury risk reduction and biomechanical approaches to ACL rehabilitation and return-to-play decision making.⁠

We also enjoyed catching up with colleagues from Victoria University's Physiotherapy School and expanding our ideas of how to better support our patients with evidence-based care and industry collaborations.
