π« MYTH: "If I brush harder, my teeth will be cleaner."
β
FACT: Brushing harder can actually harm your teeth and gums.
Here's what many people don't realise: aggressive brushing can wear down your tooth enamel and cause your gums to recede over time. Once enamel is damaged or gums have receded, the effects can be difficult to reverse.
The right approach?
β Use a soft-bristled toothbrush
β Apply gentle pressure (let the bristles do the work)
β Brush for 2 minutes, twice daily
β Focus on technique, not force
β Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months
Think of it like washing a delicate fabric β gentle and thorough beats rough and rushed every time.
Notice sensitive teeth or receding gums? These can be signs of brushing too hard. Mention it at your next appointment so we can assess and provide personalised guidance.
