āI support mandatory registration because clinical safety depends on it. It requires specialised skills to deliver safe and consistent care. Registration means clinical oversight, training and governance to keep our people safe. We take this responsibility seriously, which is why we operate as a registered organisation.ā Lara Tattersall, Clinical Nurse Educator
Mandatory registration isnāt red tape: itās protection. It ensures strong clinical oversight, skilled workforces, and robust governance to deliver safe, consistent care across SIL services.
From 1 July 2026, SIL providers must be registered NDIS providers. At Unisson we fully support this change.
Do you support mandatory registration? Let us know in the comments
We invite our peers, Aruma, Achieve Australia, Cerebral Palsy Alliance, Nextt, Sunnyfield Disability Services, Sylvanvale and Life Without Barriers, to share their thoughts and tag us as we work towards mandatory registration and stronger safeguards for people living in SIL.
If you need support understanding what this change means, our team is here to help.

2026 isnāt business as usual, itās a turning point for the disability sector.
Teresa our Community Engagement Specialist joined Building Bridges as a guest panel speaker for a timely discussion on what 2026 could mean for the NDIS and the disability sector.
The conversation tackled the big issues head-on: new framework planning, Support Needs Assessment, and how we protect dignity, choice, relationships, and trust in a time of rapid automation and system change.
Teresaās message was clear: 2026 is a year for consolidation, not distraction.
Focus on what you do best. Double down on what makes your organisation unique. Use compliance as a growth tool, not just a requirement. And stay agile, because change isnāt optional.
Thank you to Building Bridges for creating space for honest, forward-looking conversations the sector truly needs.
What do you see as the biggest priority for the sector in 2026?

āI support mandatory registration because the safety for people living with disability must never depend on luck, one failure can change a life forever.ā Stephanie Paige, Practice, Quality and Safeguard Officer
At Unisson, we support mandatory registration because the stakes are too high not to.
Stronger safeguards mean safer supports, reduced risk, and better outcomes for people with disability.
From 1 July 2026, SIL providers must be registered, and we believe this is the right move for the sector.

āI support mandatory registration because having a single regulated framework promises consistency and accountability in quality of care and protection for participants, for your family member.ā Geraldine Jeltes, Head of Clinical Governance and Risk
At Unisson, we strongly support this initiative as a step in the right direction. A single regulated framework strengthens accountability, improves consistency, and enhances protection for people living in SIL and their families.
From 1 July 2026, SIL providers will need to be registered NDIS providers.
What are your thoughts on this change? We will be sharing ours over the next few weeks.

The most important thing you need to know about us... is Unisson. It means what you think it means. No hidden or cryptic messaging. It is simple. At Unisson, we aim to work with you. Alongside you. In collaboration. In relationship. In Unisson.
There is one part that probably needs an explanation - the double SS. This is to retain a connection to our history and our previous name SunShine.
When we talk about collaboration and partnership it means that your goals are our goals, we really mean that. Whatever you want out of life, and however you want to go about getting there, we are along for the ride with you, and the ride is what we do best!
You see, to us, the ride is the journey, the relationship we build with you. We believe relationships don't just make the world go round, they make it a better place for all of us to live.
We believe our people are different. We only employ good people, people who embody our values. Our people are the ones who want to make a difference in the world. We believe that small actions, create big impact. We are the man who will let you go first in the checkout when you have fewer items. We are the woman who smiled at you with comfort when your young child once again had a tantrum in the shopping centre. We are the people that when we ask, 'how are you?', we stop and really listen to hear how you are. We are the people that believe a more inclusive world for people with disability is possible and we know our everyday actions will help create it.
As an organisation, we've been around forever! Well not forever but close to it, 95 years! We are proud of our history not because it means we are old, but because it means we have nostalgic and inspiring beginnings to lean on. Read about our beginnings that continually inspire us towards our vision of a world where every person is welcomed - really welcomed not just waved at!
You can read about what is ahead for us in our strategic plan in a brief one-pager. We are excited about the future and all the great things that are possible when we work together in Unisson.
