They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

A long-standing tradition at SPOT, Wellbeing Wednesdays are something we really value as a team.

Once a month, we take time out of our usual routines to connect, slow down and engage in something that supports our wellbeing. This might look like sharing a meal together, getting outside for a walk in the sunshine or taking part in simple mindfulness activities.

Last month, we stepped away for a mindfulness walk, taking a moment to pause, notice our surroundings and reset together.

Creating space for wellbeing within our team is important to us. It allows us to reconnect, recharge and continue showing up for the children and families we support with presence and care.

Our school holiday groups have been a great success this school holidays, it’s been so lovely to see children connecting, creating and having fun together.

From hands-on pizza making to sensory and craft activities, these sessions have been full of exploration, teamwork and plenty of proud moments. Children have been building and practicing skills with communication, fine motor, sensory exploration, regulation and social connection, all through engaging, play-based experiences.

There’s something special about seeing children come together with common interests in a supportive space, whether it’s exploring new foods, establishing shared interests, problem solving together, or taking home something they’ve created themselves.

If you missed out on our groups this school holidays stay tuned for our July holiday groups announcement early term 2!

We’re so excited to share that SPOT Paediatrics Speech Pathologist, Michelle Molloy, has been featured in the latest issue of KIDDO Magazine.

It’s such a wonderful opportunity to share practical, evidence-informed information with families, especially during those early stages of parenthood.

Michelle’s article explores the foundations of communication, mental health and feeding in the early days, highlighting how everyday moments like feeding, talking, singing and responding to your baby all support connection and development from the very beginning. She also shares simple, reassuring strategies to support communication, navigate mealtimes, and feel more confident in your role as a caregiver.

With a strong focus on connection and responsiveness, the article offers thoughtful guidance for families as they find their rhythm in those early days.

You can read Michelle’s full article in KIDDO Magazine here: https://kiddomag.com.au/issues/kiddo-mag-issue-35/

From an OT’s perspective, regulation isn’t about expecting children to calm down on demand, it’s about noticing what their body needs.

Some children need to power down; slowing their bodies with deep pressure, cuddles, breathing or a quiet space.

Others need to level up; using movement, jumping, crashing, music or active sensory input to feel more organised and alert.

When we understand whether a child needs to power down or level up, we can respond with support instead of correction.

Because regulation skills grow through connection, movement and co-regulation, not pressure.

A little glimpse into what we do at SPOT.

Across our days, you’ll find a mix of play, movement, creativity and connection. From building towers and exploring sensory activities, to working on communication, motor skills and regulation, every moment is purposeful and guided by each child’s goals.

What might look like play on the surface is thoughtfully designed to support development in ways that feel engaging, achievable and meaningful for the child.

We genuinely love what we do, and it’s a privilege to have so much fun alongside the children and families we support each day.

We take the time to get to know each child, follow their interests, and create sessions where they feel supported, confident and ready to try.

This is what therapy can look like when it’s built on connection and trust, child-led, and grounded in real-life skills.

At SPOT, we offer joint Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology sessions to support children in a more connected and collaborative way.

These sessions bring both therapists together in real time, allowing for shared thinking, problem solving, and a more integrated approach to your child’s therapy. It also means families can hear consistent information and strategies from both therapists at the same time.

Sessions are designed around your child’s interests, with therapists weaving key focus areas such as communication, movement and regulation into meaningful activities. This might look like supporting communication during movement, supporting AAC across OT focus areas, using regulation strategies to support engagement and participation, and plenty of opportunity for collaboration with caregivers to help guide focus areas and outcomes.

Behind the scenes, sessions are thoughtfully planned together, with both therapists continuing to reflect and prepare for next steps after each appointment.

Joint sessions also create opportunities for therapists to learn from each other, strengthening the support your child receives both during and beyond the session, and helping to create a consistent, well-rounded approach to your child’s care.

Wishing all of our families a happy and safe long weekend 💛

Changes in routine, busy days, and lots of excitement can sometimes feel a little unsettled for children, and that’s completely okay. These shifts are a normal part of family life, and things will find their rhythm again.

With school holidays just around the corner, we have a couple of spots still available in our Sensory & Craft Holiday Groups. Children will come away with their own creations, from stress balls and cake squishies for younger groups, to infinity cubes and slime for older children, all while building skills through play.

If you’ve been thinking about it, now is a great time to secure a place.

A simple Easter craft with a little bounce 🐰

Craft activities like this are a great way to support fine motor skills, hand strength and coordination, while also encouraging problem solving, creativity and early planning. The hands-on, playful nature of this type of activity can help children stay engaged, build confidence and take pride in what they’ve created.

To make your bouncing bunny:
Cut four small slits around the base of your beautifully decorated cup. Loop a rubber band or hair tie around one side, twist it, and secure it onto the opposite side (we recommend adding tape to hold it in place). Then, place your bunny on top of another cup, let it go to watch it jump!

Trying simple activities like this over long weekends or school breaks can be a great way to keep children engaged, explore new skills and enjoy some shared moments of connection together 🐣

We’re hiring at SPOT 💛
