Love the colour change in water for a herbal tea. You can literally see the goodness of the plant filling the water which we can directly put into our bodies. Some compounds include polyphenols, terpenes, alkaloids, and glycosides. Each herb is unique in constituents and youll notice in teas and tinctures the difference in colour and consistency which I find so cool.
In the tea pictured above we have Yarrow, Elder Flower and Peppermint which makes up an extremely popular YEP tea used by many herbalists around the world. Used to dry up excess fluid, tone mucous membranes, encourage gentle sweating among many other uses. A great blend and tastes pretty good too!
Nearing the end of my week long cold it has honestly knocked me flat, and it's something I see with clients. The body can use a virus to purge, but something I see in clinic is to slow someone down. The type of people who are always busy, often putting other needs before their own and usually the body will give mild symptoms as gentle warning signs. But if you don't listen eventually the body knows how to stop someone in their tracks. So I've seen this sickness as a positive, time to recover slow down and look after myself properly.
As a massive history fan, something that is apparent in medieval times and earlier we were governed by seasons. Winter was a time where not a lot was growing or slowed. Days were shorter so with less work and less sunlight everyone had to slow down and hibernate. We bypass this in modern life and I do think it's important to remember our roots and nourish ourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually including true rest periods. Otherwise the body might just sit you down when least convenient!
Please get in touch if you'd like some support for up coming winter, there are many herbs that can boost our immunity.
