At Hunters Hill Medical Practice, our focus is simple — delivering high quality, patient-centred healthcare for our community through a multidisciplinary model, all under one roof for convenience and continuity of care.

We believe strong health outcomes start with prevention and a holistic approach to treatment. By looking at the full picture — lifestyle, risk factors, medical history, and wellbeing — practitioners can tailor care plans that support each patient’s long-term health.

Our practice brings together a range of highly experienced independent medical practitioners and allied services in one location, making it easier to coordinate care at every stage of life. We know that the best outcomes come from getting to know patients as individuals and building care plans around their specific needs.

A healthier community is built one person at a time — and accessible, coordinated healthcare plays an essential role in that journey.

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month — an important reminder that ovarian cancer can be difficult to detect early because symptoms are often subtle and easily overlooked.

Ongoing bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, feeling full quickly, changes in bowel habits, urinary frequency, or unexplained fatigue should not be brushed aside if they persist.

There is currently no routine screening test for women at average risk. Awareness of symptoms — and acting on changes that are new, ongoing, or worsening — plays a key role in earlier assessment.

If something doesn’t feel right, book a visit with your GP and get clear guidance on next steps. Awareness supports earlier conversations and informed care.

There has been recent record investment in women’s health across Australia — including the rollout and expansion of dedicated endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics, increased support for earlier diagnosis pathways, and broader access to care.

Women can now also access more medications through the PBS, helping reduce cost barriers and improving ongoing treatment options for conditions like endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain.

Specialised endometriosis and pelvic pain care has long been a core focus at our clinic, where we provide structured assessment, investigation, and management for women experiencing persistent pelvic pain and related symptoms — including access to one of the region’s dedicated endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics.

Greater awareness and earlier assessment make a real difference. Pelvic pain and endometriosis are complex medical conditions that deserve proper investigation, evidence-based care, and support.

If you or someone you know is living with ongoing pelvic pain or suspects endometriosis, seeking assessment from our experienced clinical team is an important next step.

This February, Hunters Hill Medical Practice is proud to support REDFEB Heart Health Month — raising awareness about heart disease and the importance of early prevention.

Heart disease can develop silently, but many risk factors are preventable or manageable with regular checks and the right support. A heart health check can help identify issues such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, family history, and lifestyle factors — giving you the chance to act early.

Small, consistent changes — like improving nutrition, increasing activity, managing stress, and keeping up with routine GP visits — can make a meaningful difference over time.

This month is your reminder to prioritise your heart. Book a heart health check and take a proactive step toward long-term wellbeing.

Today we received flowers… with a twist 🧱

A thoughtful patient surprised one of our doctors with this incredible LEGO flower arrangement — proof that appreciation doesn’t have to wilt.

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. Thoughtful, creative, and guaranteed to last far longer than a traditional bouquet, this gift brought a lot of smiles to the team.

To our patients: Thank you for trusting us, and for the small (and big) gestures that make our days brighter.

With students back at school, this is an important reminder for parents to check that their child’s health action plan has been reviewed, updated, and provided to the school.

Plans for asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, seizures, and other medical needs should always reflect current medications, doses, and care instructions. Schools depend on the latest version to respond appropriately if support is needed.

If your child’s plan hasn’t been updated yet — or there have been any recent changes — book a GP consultation as soon as possible and send the updated plan through to the school immediately.

A current action plan helps staff act quickly and confidently when it matters most.

Each year in Australia, around 1,900 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer—and in many cases, it’s detected at an advanced stage, when treatment is more complex.

That’s why education and early action matter.

Ovarian cancer symptoms can be subtle and persistent, including bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, changes in appetite, or urinary changes. If something doesn’t feel right or symptoms don’t go away, it’s important to trust your instincts and speak with your GP.

Early investigation can make a difference.
This February, let’s raise awareness, encourage conversations, and empower women to seek care sooner.

Medicines help when used correctly — but when stored or disposed of improperly, they can pose serious risks, especially for children.

Simple steps to keep your household safe:
• Store medications out of sight and reach of children
• Use child-resistant containers and keep lids securely closed
• Never leave medicines on benches, bedside tables or in handbags
• Dispose of expired or unused medications safely at your local pharmacy

🚫 Avoid flushing medicines or throwing them in household waste unless advised — safe disposal protects both people and the environment.

🚨 In an emergency:
Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if someone has been exposed to a harmful substance and stops breathing, collapses, has a seizure, or shows signs of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).

📞 For urgent medication advice:
If a child or adult may have taken the wrong medicine or dose, contact the Poisons Information Line on 13 11 26.
Available 24/7 for expert guidance.

At Hunters Hill Medical Practice, we encourage patients to ask questions about their medications — understanding how to store and use them safely is just as important as taking them correctly.

As most schools head back next week, now is a good time to check that your child’s health plans are up to date.

If your child has asthma or allergies, preparation can make a real difference at school.

Things to check before term starts:
• Is your asthma action plan current?
• Is your allergy action plan updated and shared with the school?
• Do you have a new, in-date EpiPen ready for school and after-school care?
• Are relievers, spacers or medications clearly labelled?

Asthma and allergic reactions can change over time, and regular reviews help ensure children are protected and confident at school.

At Hunters Hill Medical Practice, GPs can review and update asthma and allergy action plans and help families prepare for the school year ahead.

A little preparation now can help keep the school year on track.

After the holiday season, many people notice changes in their weight — but weight is influenced by far more than occasional indulgence alone. Factors such as metabolism, medical conditions, medications and lifestyle all play a role.

Your GP can support you by:
• Screening for underlying or related health conditions
• Assessing overall health risks and contributing factors
• Discussing evidence-based options tailored to your individual needs

Support may include:
• Non-medication approaches such as referral to a dietitian or exercise physiologist
• Practical, sustainable lifestyle strategies
• Consideration of medical treatment options where appropriate

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. The focus is on long-term health, not quick fixes.

At Hunters Hill Medical Practice, we take a respectful, whole-person approach to weight and wellbeing.
