Mealtime safety can be a matter of life or death for people with disability.

Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) can lead to choking, which in severe cases can cause life-threatening but preventable injuries. The NDIS Commission carried out a nationwide campaign to check provider mealtime practices and improve participant safety:

🔍 98 providers visited
📍184 site visits
✅ Most had up-to-date mealtime plans
⚠️ 6% flagged for follow-up compliance action

This work supports safer, more dignified mealtimes for NDIS participants.

📢 Where serious safety risks or breaches are identified, the NDIS Commission will continue cracking down on providers who fail to meet their obligations.

As a Disability Transition Support Officer, Jessy helps senior students with a disability transition to learning at TAFE.

He helps them understand TAFE processes and policies and what their experience will be like, as well as referrals to support services and working with educators on reasonable accommodations and more.

NDIS participants should be charged the same price for goods and services as other customers, unless there's reasonable justification for the price difference.

Charging an NDIS participant more than other customers without good reason is unfair pricing and is not allowed under the NDIS Code of Conduct.

Data sharing is critical to the success of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

We awarded 7 grants worth $4.5 million in the 2022-23 financial year, with these projects concluding in the 2024-25 financial year.

All of these projects actively involved people with disability, NDIS providers and workers through co-design and co-creation workshops to ensure their voices and experiences shaped the outcomes.

✅ 18 people with disability were directly employed in project roles, including project officers, lived-experience consultants and peer advisors
✅ 112 people with disability and 101 NDIS providers and workers were involved in project co-design, creation and implementation
✅ 59 co-design workshops helped create practical tools and resources

Our grants benefited diverse communities across Australia, delivering a range of resources, including a national information hub, interactive learning tools, community education workshops and more.
