Dr Ross: I was in Laos in October with Sight For All at the National Ophthalmology Centre in Vientiane. Our focus was on training three paediatric ophthalmologists to improve eye care for children across the country. I taught strabismus surgery and helped out in clinics — patients came not only from Vientiane but also from rural provinces, some travelling up to two days to reach us.

It was an incredibly rewarding experience to help build local capacity and see the impact firsthand. 🇱🇦💙

✈️ Flying after surgery? It’s a question we’re often asked—especially by patients planning holidays or travelling from afar.

Yesterday, Dr Stringfellow operated on a lovely patient who, together with her husband, flew here in their own light plane from a remote property over 600km away in northwest NSW.

After a smooth and successful cataract surgery, she was thrilled to be able to fly home the very next day! 👏

Meet one of our associates Dr Helmut Yu! 👋Dr Helmut Yu is a consultant ophthalmologist with sub-specialty training in glaucoma, medical retina and cataract surgery. Following his ophthalmology training at The Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Dr Yu pursued sub-specialty fellowships at several prestigious institutions in the United Kingdom, focusing on glaucoma and cataract surgery at Cambridge University Hospital and Queen Victoria Hospital, and medical retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He was appointed as a glaucoma consultant at Cambridge University Hospital.
