✍️ Handwriting & Hypermobility: What’s the Impact?

If your child has hypermobility, handwriting can feel like a real challenge—not just a skill they need to “practice more.”

Hypermobility affects joint stability, meaning the small muscles in the hands and fingers have to work much harder to control movement. This can lead to:
• Reduced hand strength and endurance
• Pencil grips that look awkward or constantly change
• Slower writing speed and difficulty keeping up in class
• Messy or inconsistent letter formation
• Hand fatigue, discomfort, or even pain
• Avoidance of writing tasks altogether

Over time, this doesn’t just impact handwriting—it can affect confidence, participation, and overall school performance.

While practice helps, it’s often not enough on its own. Children with hypermobility benefit from targeted support that focuses on building stability and control, not just repetition.

If your child finds handwriting tricky, it may be more than just practice—they may need the right support to succeed.

📞 Handwriting support is available through Little Achievers Occupational Therapy handwriting intensives and group sessions during the school holidays. For more information, call 8021 3630 or email reception@littleachievers.com.au

• Is your child confident in group settings?

• Are they developing the skills needed for classroom tasks?
• Do they need support with independence or emotional regulation?

Starting school is a big milestone — and the right support can make all the difference.

Our school holidays Teens Life Skills Group has been an absolute success! 🌟

Over the course of the program, participants developed valuable skills in meal planning, preparing and cooking meals, budgeting, and managing their time. They worked through challenges together, showing great teamwork and supporting one another to find solutions along the way.

A key focus was building healthy habits and understanding how to make positive choices—even within the reality of busy teenage schedules (and those mornings when getting out of bed is a challenge!).

If you wish for your teen to get involved in a lifeskills based social skills group, please contact reception@littleachievers.com.au or call (02) 8021 3630

We are so proud of the growth, resilience, and confidence shown by each young person. Well done to everyone involved! đź’›

What a huge week for our social explorers! 🌿

From local parks to beaches and bays, our Little Achievers embraced every opportunity to get out into the community—discovering new spaces, navigating real-world experiences, and building confidence along the way.

Through shared adventures, friendships deepened, social skills strengthened, and even challenges became powerful moments for growth and therapeutic resolution.

There’s something special about learning beyond four walls—exploring, connecting, and creating meaningful memories in the world around us. Our screen-free social groups give children the chance to truly engage with their community while building the foundational skills that support them for life. 💛

Here’s to more exploring, more connecting, and more growing together!
