Cloncurry’s healthcare system has undergone a major rebuild 🏥✨ with six full-time doctors now living and working in the town across both the private GP clinic and hospital.
The turnaround follows last year’s resignation of the town’s only GP, who cited burnout and health concerns.
“Sadly, sometimes the system has to fall over before people take notice and can rebuild it," new owner, Townsville-based Dr Michael Clements said.
👨⚕️📋Since formally taking over operations in November… he said the focus has been on rebuilding staffing and strengthening services.
“We’re not just going to respond to people when they say they need something from us... we’re going to be proactive.”
What’s changed:
🤝 Six full-time locally based doctors recruited with Queensland Health support
🏥 GPs working across both the clinic and hospital roster
🎓 Mix of experienced doctors and GP trainees
💰 Standard appointments now bulk-billed
❤️ Stronger focus on chronic disease management and preventative health checks
🌏 Plans to expand services and eventually support nearby communities like Julia Creek and McKinlay
Dr Clements said once fully established, the goal is for Cloncurry to become a stronger healthcare hub for the wider North West.
