27/01/2026

Heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding are expected across the Cassowary Coast this afternoon, especially between Flying Fish Point and Cardwell.

Please stay alert to warnings, keep an eye on the Cassowary Coast Disaster Dashboard, and avoid flooded roads and waterways.

Sandbag stations are open across the region, and SES assistance is available on 132 500.

In an emergency, call 000 immediately.

Stay safe, mob โ€” look out for your family, neighbours, and community.

Severe Weather Advice: Stay Informed
Cassowary Coast Region

Issued: 1.00pm, 27 January 2026
Next update: As the situation changes

Cassowary Coast Local Disaster Management Group advises people in the Cassowary Coast Local Government Area to STAY INFORMED for severe weather approaching.

For non-life-threatening flood and storm emergency assistance, contact SES on 132 500, 132500.qld.gov.au or the SES Assistance Qld app on Android or iOS.

In a life-threatening situation, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

๐Ÿ‘‰ What are we expecting?

Convergent winds about the northeast coast are resulting in severe thunderstorms.

Heavy rainfall is expected later today, which may lead to flash flooding and dangerous driving conditions across parts of the Cassowary Coast region, particularly coastal areas between Flying Fish Point and Cardwell.

If intense and sustained rainfall resumes, floodwater may inundate low-lying areas and homes.

Separate flood watch and marine warnings have been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts?stateName=Queensland

๐Ÿ‘‰ What you need to do:

โœ…Residents living in or near coastal areas should stay informed and prepare now.
โœ… If you live near waterways, prepare your home for risk of surface water inundation.
โœ… Use the sandbags you already have.
โœ… If you need more supplies, self-service sandbag stations are available at the following locations:

CARDWELL: SES, Gregory Street, Cardwell
INNISFAIL: Leichhardt Street, Goondi Bend (Footy field top area)
MISSION BEACH: Frogs Hollow, South Mission Beach
MOURILYAN: Mill Road, Mourilyan (Old Mill)
SILKWOOD: Cnr Cassar Road & Margaret Street, Silkwood (behind the old SES shed)
TULLY: Tully SES, 3 Murray Street, Tully
TULLY HEADS: Tully Heads SES Shed, Acacia Close (next to community hall)

โœ… Review your usual transport routes and consider possibility of isolation with low lying bridges and roads.
โœ… Find out how to get ready for a flood at the Get Ready Queensland website www.getready.qld.gov.au/get-prepared
โœ… Never drive, walk, ride through, play or swim in flood water. If itโ€™s flooded, forget it.
โœ… Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
โœ… Prepare for potential power outages.
โœ… Share this information with family and friends.

๐Ÿ‘‰ For more information:

โœ… Regularly check the Cassowary Coast Disaster Dashboard https://disaster.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au for weather warnings, road closures, power outages, rainfall and river height information, and emergency news.

โœ… Listen to your local radio station for updates.

January 26 can be a hard day for a lot of our mob, especially with all the negativity that pops up on social media.

This Day My Way is about looking after ourselves and each other โ€” choosing not to get dragged into hate, and keeping our head and heart safe.

If things start getting heavy online, itโ€™s okay to step back, mute the noise, and stay close to the people who care for you.
Letโ€™s check in on our family, our friends, our young ones, and make sure no one is carrying the weight alone.

On this day, do what feels right for you โ€” your way, your pace, your wellbeing first.
