Inverell peeps Please take the time to fill out this survey.

As someone who has called Inverell home for nearly 50 years—give or take a decade living elsewhere—I've come to deeply appreciate the natural beauty and community character of this region. It's that very connection that shapes my concerns about the proposed power battery storage project.

I don't believe Inverell needs this type of development for several reasons:

Scale and Need: Inverell is a small, relatively low-demand community. Large-scale battery storage seems disproportionate to our local energy needs, especially when existing infrastructure is already reliable.

Environmental Impact: While battery storage is often presented as a clean energy solution, the construction, maintenance, and potential risks associated with these installations can compromise the natural landscape we all cherish.

Location Matters: Inverell’s charm lies in its open spaces, scenic views, and rural tranquillity. Especially when the development is on the way into town. Industrial-scale projects—no matter how "green" they claim to be—can change the character of a place forever.

Community Input: Many residents feel decisions like this are being made without genuine community consultation. Development that doesn’t reflect the will of the people can create long-term division and distrust.

Better Alternatives: If energy storage is necessary, there may be more suitable locations with greater demand or existing industrial zones that could host such facilities without disrupting the rural fabric of our town.
