I had someone in clinic today for her 2nd treatment with a painful and severely stiff shoulder. Most likely Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) from a western science perspective.
She had some great improvement, which has given her confidence to persevere with regular treatment. Like most treatments for frozen shoulder it is not a quick fix, but may help with the symptoms.
Acupuncture is an effective, evidence-based therapy for reducing pain and improving range of motion in patients with frozen shoulder (Eyal, B et al 2020).

Acupuncture can be a complimentary therapy for chronic pain, such as back, neck and knee pain as well as tension headaches.

Can acupuncture help anxiety, depression & sleep in perimenopause?
Up to 62% of women experience depression during perimenopause.
As well as reducing hot flushes, acupuncture has shown reduction in anxiety & depression and improved quality of life (Wen et al 2017). In a comparison study of and during the acupuncture performed better than antidepressants in long term treatment (Sheng et al 2018). Peri-menopausal insomnia has also shown response to acupuncture (Fu et al 2017).

Yintang- What an amazing point. Known as the “Hall of Impression”. Calms the Shen.
Shen can be translated as “Sprit” or “Mind” and implies our consciousness, mental functions, mental health, vitality, and our “presence”. Shen lives in the Heart, where it retires to sleep during the night. If the Shen is disturbed, there may be insomnia.
State of the Shen is said to be visible in the eyes. Healthy Shen produces bright, shining eyes, with vitality. Disturbed Shen produces dull eyes, which seem to have a curtain in front of them- as if no one were behind them. Often seen in those with long-term emotional problems or after serious shock (even shock that occurred a long time ago).

Not many people get out of my treatment room without Yintang, unless of course they are face down for treatment 😁

As part of my midwifery course, I’m completing a Continuity of Care Experience, where I have the privilege of supporting women throughout their pregnancy journey.

I’m currently looking for pregnant women who would be open to having a student midwife alongside them for extra (completely free!) support during pregnancy.

This can mean having someone to attend appointments with you, provide reassurance, and be a consistent, friendly face along the way.

Life Naturally is a wellness centre predominately for women seeking pre-conception, fertility, pregnancy and post-natal support.

I enable women who may otherwise struggle through these important life stages to have a safe space for nurturing and healing and preparing their mind and body for pregnancy, birth and mothering. Pregnancy massage, acupuncture and HypnoBirthing can prepare the mind and body for positive birth and mothering.
