Curious about homebirth and if it aligns with you?

Hey Gippslanders!! We are having a homebirth meet-up!!

On Saturday 30th November 2024 at 10am, Gippsland families who are interested in homebirth, planning a homebirth, homebirth supporters, or those who have had a homebirth are invited to join us for a gathering of like-minded people ❤️

We are gathering at the beautiful Lamezleighs Coffee House & Eatery in Mirboo North, which has incredible coffee and food, a good play area for the kids, and easy bathroom access!

The local Gippsland homebirth midwives will be around and happy to chat, but the main purpose is for our local homebirth families to connect with each other. A village is what’s needed after all!

Please share this post with your circles and anyone who may be interested. To RSVP please email info@beempoweredbirth.com.au

I highly recommend this powerful film - as a homebirth midwife I am time and time again touched by the tears of joy as couples achieve their healing births at home after a story of birth trauma. We know that up to 45% of women report birth trauma - it is time to tell a different birth narrative.

Showing at Leongatha Cinema September 12th 7:15. Purchase tickets through Demand Films.

Addit: If you missed the deadline it is not too late to make a difference. Homebirth Australia have some templates you can use to write letters to local positions, health ministers and the Australian College of midwives. I would also like you to consider reaching out to the Maternity Consumer Network to campaign for change - Victoria is certainly lacking consumer activity in the maternity space.

Hey peeps!!! If you have never campaigned for something important now is your time. As of June next year due to a solution to homebirth insurance women of moderate to high risk will no longer have the opportunity to choose to birth at home with a midwife. If you have birthed at home with any risk at all or would like to homebirth in the future you have 40 min to complete this survey to have your say and ‘change the world’. Closes 6pm today. Given that 80% of my homebirth clients meet a criteria that would risk them out of homebirth this is a dire situation.

I’m so chuffed to have supported this beautiful undisturbed, upright, breech waterbirth at home - minus all the scare tactics, emergency buzzers, coercion, professional crowding and poorly evidenced position changes- a truly divine moment of time. Anne Doula Service

Thank you all who have responded to this post. We have found some wonderful sources of milk close to this family to access as needed. So lovely to be living in such a wonderful supportive community. Good Morning Peeps. One of my clients has birthed prematurely and is after some breastmilk. Wondering if there is anyone out there that would like to help her out. The baby is in Warragul - family can pick up the milk.

There is a point in labor when mothers have to make a decision. In the hardest hour, they are asked to birth a newer version of themselves. They will have to let go and embrace the new mother their baby has chosen to be born to.
At births, this moment is such a delicate dance to witness. We hold space, we pray, we say words of encouragement, but ultimately it’s the mother who needs to do the work. We see her walk down the alley of what could be her hardest thoughts.
There is often resistance, doubt, fear.

And then the miraculous happens and as she ponders about the choices she has to make ( birth in water, not the OR, in the woods…), she emerges from the realm of her labor more powerful than before, holding her spiting high like a Queen, she is ready to birth her baby.

Having heard Dr Sarah Buckley speak many times on radio I highly recommend this event. Oxytocin is the key to a joyous and all empowering birth journey. When you understand this you will be more able to protect your birth space, plan your place of birth and decide who will support you along the way (tip: only those who have a deep appreciation for the power of this love hormone should be in your birthing space).

Save the date! "Oxytocin Unplugged: The hormone of love in pregnancy, birth and beyond."
Date: Monday 11 December 7pm – 9:30pm

If you enjoyed Birth Time I recommend this screening. Time to invite your birth loving friends and family to an event that paints birth differently to medicalised pathway so deeply ingrained in this modern world. The beauty of birth should be honoured and celebrated.

Convincing stats!! Now that COVID has settled there has been a dramatic drop in the number of calls from women and families wanting to birth at home. These stats alone should be motivation enough to consider Homebirth- no need for COVID to assure us that Homebirth is a valid and most wonderful birth option.

Homebirth is a safe and wonderful option, especially if you’d rather avoid unnecessary interventions and complications.

If you are pregnant and ready to explore your birthing options, send me a PM and let’s chat!

Did you know…. That the size fl**ge that most breast pumps come with will be TOO BIG for the majority of women?

All good brands will have different sized fl**ges that you can buy to fit their machines.

This is a super handy graphic showing how a breast pump fl**ge should fit.
If it’s too big, then it can rub and cause pain or even damage your ni***es.
Some women swear by adding some coconut oil to the fl**ge to help with comfort levels too. (I’ve not tried this myself so I can’t comment on how well it works.
