Farmers and growers are urging Australia's major supermarket chains to pay more for fresh produce, saying suppliers alone cannot absorb increased fuel costs without "serious consequences".
Would you be willing to pay more at supermarkets if it meant more money for farmers?

Making sure your livestock get enough feed and nutrients during dry times is key to keeping your herd strong for the long haul. Have you thought about what you’ll do if your feed supply runs short?
Pregnant and lactating stock have higher nutrient needs, so it’s important to factor them into your planning early.
Develop a plan early to ensure you can make a quick decision if conditions worsen and don’t get caught out.
Hearing from our clients about how our products are performing in the paddock is the driving force behind our day-to-day — happy clients, healthy livestock. 🌱💪

Getting the most out of your lick program isn’t just about putting a block out and hoping for the best — it’s about making it work with your country, your stock, and your conditions.
A few handy tips to maximise results 👇
✔️ Placement matters – Position licks where stock naturally travel (water points, camps, gateways) to encourage consistent intake.
✔️ Match the season – Make sure your product actually suits the feed on the ground. In green conditions, cattle often won’t touch high urea blocks because they simply don’t need that extra nitrogen. As feed dries off, that’s when urea-based products really come into their own. It’s all about filling the nutritional gaps, not over-supplementing.
✔️ Monitor intake – Too much or too little tells a story. Keep an eye on consumption so you can tweak your program as conditions change.
✔️ Don’t let them run out – Gaps in access can set you back. Consistent intake is key to keeping rumen function ticking along and cattle performing.
✔️ Keep it fresh – Old, weathered blocks lose palatability. Rotate or replace to keep cattle interested.
A well-managed lick program can be the difference between cattle just getting by and actually performing. If you’re not sure your current setup is hitting the mark, it might be time to reassess.

Hewitt & Whitty team — your blocks are on the way! 🙌
A load of lambing and mineral blocks is headed down with Hutcho from Sprengers Transport, ready to roll out across all stores. Getting in early sets you up for the critical last 6–8 weeks of pregnancy — when most foetal growth occurs — so your ewes are well supported heading into lambing. Get into store and stock up!
Hot tip: don’t let your blocks run out. Consistent supplement is where you’ll see the difference 🔥💯
All this rain has certainly freshened things up — there’s no shortage of green pick across the paddock 🌱
But while it looks ideal, rapidly growing pasture can move through the rumen quickly, limiting how much nutrition your cattle actually absorb.
That’s where a well-balanced supplement program comes in. By helping to slow the rate of passage, our products support better nutrient utilisation — meaning your cattle can make the most of what’s in front of them and keep moving forward.
Green feed is only part of the equation. Make sure you’re backing it with the right nutrition to maintain performance and productivity.

Great morning at the Elders Avoca Pre-Lambing Breakfast Last Week☀️🐑
James spoke with local producers about the benefits of getting lambing blocks out early, ensuring ewes have access to the right supplementation leading into lambing when nutritional demand is at its highest.
A great morning all round and a good opportunity to touch base with producers across the region ahead of the busy lambing season.

THIS WEEKS TRAVEL RECAP✈️
This week saw James and Harry head down to Newcastle for a training day with 24 of our New South Wales stores. On the way down, Harry has been calling in to stores along the NSW North Coast, Central Coast and Hunter region, and is now making his way back inland through the New England.
Conditions couldn’t be more different across these regions — the coast is still lush and green while many inland areas are already feeling the pinch with much drier conditions.
No matter the season or conditions, we’ve got supplementation options to suit every operation.
