Supported Independent Living isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey.
It’s a path that grows and changes with you.

Every small achievement — learning a new routine, building trust with housemates, managing your own space, or connecting with your community — is a step forward. And every step matters.

At Get Going Support, we’re here to walk alongside participants, celebrating progress, supporting growth, and adapting as needs and goals evolve. Independence isn’t about doing everything alone — it’s about having the right support, at the right time, in the way that works for you.

Because your journey is unique, and your support should be too.

We’re here to support you every step of the way.

Support should feel safe not clinical.
At GGS, we believe real support begins with belonging.

Because when someone feels like they truly matter, growth happens naturally.

🧠 What this looks like in practice:
• Taking time to build genuine relationships.
• Learning what makes each participant feel comfortable and valued.
• Creating spaces where people can be themselves.
• Showing consistency so trust can grow over time.

💬 Your turn:
What makes you feel like you truly belong?

If you’ve heard the term Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) and felt unsure what it means—you’re not alone. It’s one of those NDIS phrases that sounds complicated but is actually pretty straightforward.

A Functional Capacity Assessment is an evaluation, usually done by an allied health professional (like an OT, physio, psychologist, or speech therapist), to show:

What you can do in daily life

What challenges you face because of your disability

What supports or equipment could help you live more independently

Why does it matter?
Because these assessments provide the evidence the NDIA uses to decide your funding and supports. The clearer the assessment, the stronger your plan.

Tip: Keeping records, being honest about your challenges, and asking for plain-English explanations during the assessment can make the process less stressful and more empowering.

Chef Lachlan back in the kitchen, putting his own spin on the viral wonton lasagna. 😍

This isn’t just cooking it’s creativity, skill, and the confidence to try something new and make it his own.

At GGS, it’s these moments that matter where trying something new turns into “I did that.”

Because sometimes the best kind of progress happens in the kitchen.

Mary out for lunch and enjoying every moment.

This wasn’t just a meal it was connection, independence, and the joy of getting out and doing something for herself.

At GGS, we love seeing these moments where simple outings turn into confidence and freedom.

Because sometimes the best kind of progress is shared over a good meal.

New year same values.
At GGS, our commitment to respectful, person-centred support doesn’t change with the calendar.

What this looks like in practice:
• Treating every person with dignity and care.
• Putting choice and control at the centre.
• Supporting independence, not dependency.
• Growing alongside the people we support.

When you hear the word “supports,” it can sometimes be confusing because not all supports are funded by the NDIS. Understanding the difference can help you make the most of what’s available.

Here’s a simple breakdown:

Informal Supports – these are unpaid supports, usually from family, friends, or your community. They’re the everyday people who help out.

Mainstream Supports – these come from systems outside the NDIS, like health care, education, housing, or community services. Think GPs, schools, or public transport.

NDIS Supports – these are funded through your NDIS plan, tailored around your goals and disability-related needs. They might include therapy, assistive technology, or support workers.

The NDIS is designed to complement informal and mainstream supports not replace them. Knowing how they all fit together ensures you’re accessing the right help in the right places.
