Wanted to share this post from Jess- our practice manager ❤️
Today is World Prematurity Day, and it will always hit close to home for us.
Everyone knows Charlie’s story, but every year I’m reminded just how far she has come. From being born at 25 weeks, weighing just 1lb 15oz (872g), and facing more hurdles than any tiny baby should ever have to. We lived in intensive care for 3 and a half months, all while Melbourne was in the middle of the world’s longest covid lockdown. It was the hardest, loneliest chapter of our lives.
But she made it. We made it.
What people don’t always see is that the journey stays with you. Certain alarms, certain smells, even a moment of déjà vu can pull me straight back into that fight or flight space. The memories don’t disappear just because the outcome was a miracle.
But neither does the gratitude.
I’m grateful every single day for the NICU team who cared for her, for the friends and family who held us up from afar, and for our tiny girl who fought harder than I ever thought possible.
And now you all get to know this bright, cheeky, hilarious little person who fills every room with life. That is the miracle we carried home.
To anyone who has walked or is walking the NICU road, I see you and I promise you the strength you’re showing is bigger than you realize.
