Here are some of the horses during and after we just completed a trauma clearing with a client who had experienced repeated abuse by her father when she was young.
The client accessed her repressed anger and followed her body’s impulse to restore boundaries and safety. It was a little loud, a little raw, and a lot of movement. Afterward, the client’s body language told a different story - smiling, open, relaxed and upright. A posture of safety.
So why did the horses continue to lay on the ground – one even quite close to us?
The horses are relaxed, even sleeping because they feel safe. The client owned the anger and skillfully moved it through her body to restore boundaries and safety.
Anger is authentic – it does not filter for approval. It cuts through the programming of ‘be nice, be good, be perfect, please others, try harder, not enough …’ It is real.
When we own our anger, harness its power and execute a movement (even a hand gesture) with precision – according to what the body wants, we feel different. We restore our agency. Neuropathways (that were once victim-oriented) are updated to “I am safe. I can take care of myself. Don’t mess with me.”
The source of anger is love. It arises from a deep sense of knowing that we matter. (Otherwise we would feel apathy).
Don’t be fooled that the horses weren’t doing anything though! They create an energy field of safety, containment, and unconditional acceptance. (The horses told me to mention that! LOL!)
