Wambo Supports Decembeard! Let's Talk Bowel Health! 🩺
Throughout December, Wambo Medical Practice is getting behind Decembeard! This fun campaign encourages growing facial hair to raise awareness and vital funds for Bowel Cancer Australia.

Bowel cancer is Australia’s second deadliest cancer, but it's one of the most curable if detected early.

The Most Important Conversation You Can Have:
Your beard (or your support for someone growing one) is a great conversation starter! Use it to remind yourself and your loved ones about the importance of screening.

Age 50+ (or 45+): You should be participating in the FREE National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (a simple home test kit sent in the mail). If you've received your kit, please don't put it off—do the test!

Know the Symptoms: Don't wait for the test if you have symptoms. Talk to us immediately about persistent changes in bowel habits, blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss, or abdominal pain.

What Can Wambo Do?
Our Doctors are here to discuss your risk factors, review your screening history, and complete referrals for follow-up if needed. Early detection saves lives!

If you have questions about your bowel health or the screening program, book an appointment online.

🧡 Today, November 25th, is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. 🧡

Violence against women and girls is a global human rights violation. For many, the consequences of this violence—both visible and hidden—are what bring them into our medical practice.

At Wambo Medical, our commitment to your health is absolute. We want every member of our community to know:

We See You: We are here to listen without judgment. Many health issues, from chronic pain to mental health struggles, can be connected to experiences of violence.

It Is Not Your Fault: Violence, in any form, is never acceptable.

We Can Help: Our role is to provide compassionate care and safely connect you with specialist support services. You don't have to navigate this alone.

This day also marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, this year focusing on ending digital violence against all women and girls.

If you or someone you know is affected by violence, please reach out for help:
1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) – National counselling service for sexual assault, domestic and family violence.

Emergency: 000 (If you are in immediate danger).

Let’s stand UNiTED against all forms of gender-based violence.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women aims to create awareness of the fact that violence against women is a human rights violation that impedes progress in many areas, including poverty eradication, combating HIV/AIDS, and peace and security, and therefore must be confr...

Happy International Men's Day! 🥳

Today we celebrate the men in our lives.

They're the unsung heroes who:

Can lift a heavy box... but need detailed instructions to re-fold a fitted sheet.

Fix the leaky faucet... but can't find the butter that's clearly in the fridge door.

Are masters of the grill... but will only eat something if it passes the "does it require a fork?" test.

Jokes aside, we appreciate the strength, humor, and heart you bring to your families, workplaces, and communities.

This day is also a serious reminder to check in on your mates and prioritise your mental and physical health. It takes real strength to talk about the tough stuff.

Give the men in your life a virtual (or real!) high-five today! ✋

On November 19, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. We highlight positive

🍭 It's Sugar Awareness Week! 🍬

Did you know that many of us are eating far more 'free sugars' than recommended without even realising it? These are the sugars added to food and drinks, not the natural sugars found in whole fruit and plain milk.

At [Practice Name/Wambo Medical], we want to help you make healthier choices!

Why does it matter?

Health Risks: Too much added sugar is linked to an increased risk of obesity, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and tooth decay.

Hidden Sugars: Sugars are often 'hidden' in foods you might think are healthy, like sauces, breakfast cereals, fruit juices, and muesli bars.

💡 Our Simple Challenge to You:
Read the Label: Check the 'Sugars' line on your favourite packaged food or drink.

Look for 'Hidden' Names: Be aware of ingredients like glucose, maltose, honey, syrups, and fruit juice concentrate.

Choose Water: Swap just one sugary drink (like a soft drink or cordial) for water today!

Your health is the sweetest thing! Make a small change this week for a big impact on your long-term well-being.

Breakfast provides us a great opportunity to start our day consuming a variety of essential nutrients, but unfortunately, commercial breakfasts are often high in sugar. Cereals, pancakes, pastries, rice dishes, porridges, jams, yogurts, coffee, tea and milk drinks – the food industry add huge amou...

☀️ It's National Skin Cancer Action Week (November 16–22)! ☀️

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with two in three Australians diagnosed by age 70. This week is a vital reminder that taking action is the best defence!

Let's remember the 5 S's of Sun Protection:
Slip on sun-protective clothing.

Slop on SPF30 (or higher), broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen.

Slap on a broad-brimmed hat.

Seek shade, especially between 10 am and 3 pm.

Slide on sunglasses that meet Australian Standards.

Don't Forget Your Check!
Early detection saves lives. If you notice any new spots or changes to existing spots (size, shape, or colour), please book an appointment with our doctors at Wambo Medical for a professional skin check.

Protect your skin—it's the only one you'll ever have!

National Skin Cancer Action Week is just the start of being SunSmart. This summer do the five simple things you can do to reduce your risk of skin cancer

🌬️: November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month! 💙

This month, we're shining a light on the leading cause of cancer death in Australia. It's a disease that can affect anyone with lungs, regardless of whether they have smoked.

Here's how you can help raise awareness:

Combat the Stigma: Lung cancer is a devastating disease. Let's show compassion and support for all those impacted.

Share This Post: Help us spread this important message and encourage early detection and research.

Let's work together to make a difference this November. Also, did you know you can get a free lung cancer test ? Check with your doctor about referrals.
