𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆.

Ever wondered why creamy, smooth foods are so satisfying?
Research shows a part of the brain called the orbitofrontal cortex responds strongly to how food feels in your mouth, especially oily or silky textures.

People who are more sensitive to texture tend to prefer higher-fat foods, not because they’re greedy, but because their brain finds them more rewarding.

The interesting bit? Scientists are now looking at how changing texture could make healthier foods feel just as satisfying, without adding extra fat.

Brains are clever. And a little bit sneaky. πŸ§ πŸ˜„

Spending long stretches on video calls can be surprisingly tiring. Researchers use the term β€œZoom fatigue” to describe the mental and emotional exhaustion some people feel after frequent online meetings.

Part of this comes from constantly seeing yourself on screen, concentrating harder on facial cues, and staying focused without the natural breaks that happen in face-to-face conversations. Some studies suggest this increased self-awareness can also make people more critical of how they look on camera over time.

That doesn’t mean video calls are harmful, or that everyone is affected the same way. But if you’re feeling more drained, self-conscious or irritable after lots of online meetings, you’re not imagining it.

Small changes can help. Turning off self-view, taking regular screen breaks, adjusting lighting and mixing in non-video meetings where possible can make a real difference.

If you’ve been greeted at the front desk with a laid-back smile and an easy β€œno worries”, you’ve probably met Josh, one of our casual medical receptionists.

Josh has been gaming, tinkering with computers and collecting Lego since about Year 3. In one of the attached photos, he’s holding his current favourite build, the Lego Dune Ornithopter. For non-Legoists, think mechanical dragonfly meets helicopter. It’s his favourite because of the complexity and the moving parts. The wings flap, the landing gear deploys, and the rear ramp lowers.

At work, some of the staff call him Harry, thanks to his mop-ish hair and a Harry Potter reference (apparently).

Josh admits he β€œfeels like a muppet taking photos unless he looks like one doing it”, which explains the commitment.

We’re very glad Josh, chilled vibes, Lego and all, is part of the TSAJ team.

It’s not because scientists are slow.
It’s because research has to be right.

From the first idea, to lab work, to clinical trials, to real-world care, every step is tested, reviewed, and retested. That takes time, but it’s how we make sure new treatments are safe, effective, and genuinely life-saving.

For diseases like ovarian cancer, long-term research funding isn’t a β€œnice to have”. It’s essential.

Progress happens because researchers are supported for the long haul πŸ’™
