You might think whooping cough (pertussis) is something only kids get โ but thatโs not the case.
Health experts are seeing an increase in cases, and older adults can actually become quite unwell, especially if they have underlying health conditions.
What many people donโt realise:
โข Protection from past vaccines wears off over time
โข Adults can catch and spread it โ often without the classic โwhoopโ
โข Vaccination rates in adults are currently low
๐ So what should you do?
If youโre over 50 โ or itโs been a while since your last tetanus booster โ itโs worth checking if youโre due for a whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine.
Current advice is a booster every 10 years for older adults.
โ๏ธ Helps protect you
โ๏ธ Helps protect vulnerable people around you (like babies and older family members)
