One size does not fit all.
Or at least when it comes to health. I believe in a personal approach to anything. Just because we both like baking doesn’t mean our motivations are the same. For me it might be a way to connect with my European bread loving roots and for others it might be a fun shared activity with their children. This is applicable in all aspects of life and directly links to my approach to diet.

We are made up of trillions of cells which all contribute to us being us, making us unique individuals, so why would a standardised diet work for everyone? Listening to and understanding people’s (dietary) needs is what guides my practice.
I believe that you are in the driver’s seat of your health journey, and I’m thrilled to be a good co-pilot, helping you navigate and getting you closer to reaching your goals!

Participate in asthma research!

Researchers at The University of Newcastle and HMRI are investigating the effectiveness of a 16-week personalised dietary and physical activity programme, in managing asthma symptoms.

Study Coordinator (Cat Delahunty) attending a clinical densitometry training course via Zoom, with the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS).

Your doctor may send you for a bone density scan (also referred to as DEXA scan, bone density test or bone mineral density test or by the medical name DXA test), to screen for osteoporosis. It is a simple scan that measures the density of your bones at the hip and spine.

The DEXA scan can also be used to assess body composition, it is very accurate measure of bone and soft tissue. DEXA body composition measurements provide important information for management of many diseases, and are also used by personal trainers and athletes to achieve their best results and monitor the effects of diet and exercise.

This is a routine procedure that involves the use of a flatbed scanner that you lay flat on, which produces very low levels of radiation. This test is not painful and takes about 10 minutes to complete.

The IDEAL study is using the DEXA scan to monitor body composition of study participants throughout the study.

Did you know that dietary fibre may improve asthma symptoms and reduce inflammation in the lungs of adults with asthma?

Dr Hayley Scott is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and is leading the IDEAL Study team.
She is interested in understanding how nutrition, physical activity and body composition influence asthma symptoms and inflammation in people with asthma.
Improving diet quality and increasing physical activity could reduce asthma symptoms and inflammation in the lungs, and improve quality of life.
