Serious chunk of Coastal Blackbutt.
I got to get moving Brad has 20 guests coming for Christmas lunch and this is their dining table. Will seat 20 no worries having it finished and delivered on time is another problem 😂
Dwarfs my workbench that it’s sitting upon and it is 3.6x900mm

These slabs are all Australian Red Cedar. The colour variation relate to age of tree, older the tree darker the cedar. Same applies to many of native hardwoods.
I’ll take a few of these to Laurieton Riverwalk Markets.
Be a few cracking little coffee tables, computer desks or hall tables in these.

Brucey received a Christmas present 🎁 today from Sully the magpie from Sullivans Mining & Industrial.
Pretty sure Sully runs the show down there and Brucey only agreed to pose for the photo if I removed the colouring in book because he’s big now 😎

I’ve always been interested in our local timber history. I lived in Wauchope when mills were still operating in and around town. I use to go out of my way to chat to the old fellas especially if I saw they had one or more fingers missing 😂 they always had a story or two about their experience back in the day. So as I process the timber we acquired from the old mill, I’ll be sure to share a few of the stories told to me by those old legends of Wauchope down at the old RSL, on the job, or in town.
We’ve not only lost them nowadays but they took a work ethic with them that will never been seen again… they were hard men.

This photo is Middle Brother Mountain. The track went from pretty much where the communication towers you see from the highway nowadays westward towards Jeruslem Rd. Crazy that it looked like that a century ago and today you can’t walk through there, the bush is that thick!

Actually if you head up Middle Brother to see BIRDTREE the biggest Blackbutt by volume in the world 🌎 and then onto the lookout up at the communication towers, you pass a Tallowood plantation. The sign still there that says they were planted in 1933. Those tress are now beyond harvest ready, they are big! And that’s where this line ended.

Want to see a cool before and after pic?
I was going to wait till it was sanded and coated but I don’t think It can possibly get any better then this. That is straight out of the thicknesser ❤️❤️❤️ I see why our Australian Red Cedar was called RED GOLD!
So lucky to be able to work with this special timber, my shed smells amazing and my mind keeps drifting back to story’s I’ve been told about red cedar over the years working In Wauchope, the timbertown.
I worked with old Tup, he’s passed on now but his stories are still with me. His dad was a Cedar getter here on the mid north coast. He told me that he remembered leaving in the dark with dad on horseback to go up the bush. He said it was hot and dad would be up on the hungry boards swinging his axe 🪓 sweat dripping off him with not a stitch of clothing on, dick swinging in the wind.. They would spend the entire day working on just the one log 🪵
So to me this is not just a sexy bit of timber it actually is part of our local history. What a Talking Point hey? 🥰🥰
