Australian Red Cross Lifeblood visited JHC today to remind us that the need for blood doesn’t take a holiday. ❤️

We’re proud to have a dedicated group of staff donors here at JHC — and we’d love for you to join them by giving a life-saving gift this Christmas.

Our JHC Lifeblood Team includes Critical Care Unit Clinical Nurse Manager Lisa Self, who knows firsthand how life-changing a blood donation can be. She’s pictured here donating plasma and helping make a real difference.

Ready to roll up your sleeve? Book your donation at lifeblood.com.au — and if you donate between 24 November and 4 January, you’ll receive a limited-edition festive bandage! 🎄✨

JHC’s Telethon Children’s Ward is ready for Christmas thanks to students at St Anthony’s Wanneroo. 🎅

The year 6 children decorated the playroom with their handmade crafts and delivered toys for our young patients and their families. 🎁

More than $2,500 was raised for the toys through bake sales, free dress days and other activities at the school.

The students are part of the City of Wanneroo’s School Leadership Program.

Christmas cheer came early to JHC today, with a Christmas Market held in our public reception.

Artisans included some of our multi-talented staff and members of the Country Women’s Association who were selling a wonderful selection of beautiful handmade items including candles, artwork, children’s books, festive decorations and more.

Thank you to stall holders and all those who supported our creative community.

Congratulations to Trainee Clinical Coder Jae Lee, who is enjoying some new wheels after winning an electric bike for participating in JHC’s Bike Month.

Taking place in October each year, WA Bike Month encourages people of all ages and abilities to ride bikes for transport, fun and a healthier lifestyle.

This year, JHC staff were able to enter the draw to win an e-bike valued at $1,499 every time they cycled, walked, scooted, or skated to work – part of our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and supporting healthier alternatives to driving.

We were thrilled to have a record 148 entries, with other participants sharing in some other great prizes.

Today we hosted our Paediatric and Neonatal Symposium, bringing our doctors together to learn from an inspiring lineup of guest speakers — including 2026 Australian of the Year (WA), Dr Daniele Vacchio, Head of Mental Health and Addiction Services at Fiona Stanley Hospital and the founder of Australia’s first publicly funded gaming clinic.

This event followed Friday’s JHC ED Medical Symposium, where clinicians explored a wide range of important topics, from clotting issues in pregnancy to complex cardiac conditions.

At JHC, our doctors are a valued and integral part of our workforce. Educational events like these are just one of the many ways we support their ongoing learning, professional growth, and career ambitions.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the symposiums — and to all who attended and contributed to such vibrant, insightful discussions.

Today is World Prematurity Day, when we celebrate little bubs born premature, like River Jackson, born to parents Caroline and Jammie at 33 weeks gestation, and the dedicated team at JHC who support them, and their families, with skill, warmth and compassion, as our tiny patients take baby steps towards being ready to head home.

A premature baby is one born before 37 weeks and at JHC we can care for bubs born as early as 32 weeks. Our 16-cot Neonatal Unit is staffed around the clock by dedicated and skilled neonatal nurses and paediatricians, with access to neonatologists.

Around one in 10 births worldwide are premature for a range of reasons and while we continue to work towards getting all babies to reach their due date, our Neonatal Unit is here to help all those who can’t.

In celebration of Perioperative Nurses Week (9 – 15 November), a breakfast and jigsaw puzzle competition was held to celebrate the STARS who care for our patients on their surgical journey at JHC.

In an inclusive style typical of our close-knit periop team, it wasn’t just nurses who were recognised. Our STARS include the Scrub nurses, Theatre technicians, Anaesthetic nurses, Recovery nurses and the Support staff.

Thank you to our STARS who work around the clock with our surgeons, proceduralists, and anaesthetists to ensure patients receive a safe and supported surgical experience.
