It's OT week!!!
Here's a snippet of what OT can look like in paediatrics....

Yes, we play, but we also work on functional, every day tasks.......

Play.... because this is a child's occupation, but also it is a motivator for working on some of the really tricky stuff, like emotions, demand avoidance, pencil skills, organisational skills
And ....fruit kebabs 😂😉💙

When you arrive for your appointment and make a new friend ♡....
Social communication is a key factor in making new friends and as we return to school, or start school for the first time, we meet new people and learn new communication styles.
If you have a child that is struggling to make friends, take turns, share, approach others, or play with their peers, Speech Therapy may be able to assist in targeting such skills.

The Blue Goose fairy door has had a spruce up over the weekend 💙

We have seen sooo many little goslings visit over the school holidays.
The fairies obviously noticed too, so decided some renos were called for! 🧚‍♀️

Why does it seem like all my child does is play games in OT???

What can we possibly be targeting when we play a game with your gosling?

Here's the why!

📍play is one a children's occupations
📍fine motor skills
📍social communication
📍winning/losing/turn taking
📍attention and concentration
📍self regulation
📍visual perception
📍executive functioning skills

And soooo much more! 💪🏼

Don't be frightened to ask us questions if you're not sure which goals we are trying to target!

Whilst we always try to be informative as we go through our sessions, sometimes we're just so caught up in the activities, because we LOVE play, that we might forget! 💙

For a child that doesn't enjoy fine motor activities at school, this little gosling did pretty well in OT 💙

So what made the difference?

📍The theme was motivating to him
📍The activity was achievable
📍The activity was graded to his ability
📍It was fun!
📍We worked as a team
📍He was encouraged and praised (even when he tried)
