A brief explainer of common medical imaging:
💠 X-ray
Used to diagnose bone and joint conditions.
Quick access, quick procedure.

💠Ultrasound
Uses sound waves to create images of organs and blood vessels. Guide injections.

💠CT
Detailed X-ray cross-sectional images of organs, tissue structures and blood vessels.

💠MRI
Uses magnetic fields and radio frequency waves for highly detailed tissue images.

💠PET
Shows both function and structure of organs and tissues using a radiotracer.

💠DEXA
Also called bone densitometry for early osteoporosis detection.

💠Dental
Also called OPG to assess tooth and jaw health, and plan surgery.

Each scan has a different purpose, but all deliver insights the human eye can not!

In just over 6 months the National Lung Cancer Screening Program has been diagnosing patients early using low-dose CT scans.
Even those with no symptoms.

If you're aged between 50 - 70 and have a history of heavy smoking, now's the time to speak with your GP to see if a referral right for you 🩺.
