Why Empathy Matters in Today’s Digital World

Empathy – the ability to the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

A woman commented to me the other day how empathic she was to others around her, and yet she had just said in a previous statement that she wasn’t interested in getting involved with other people’s emotions as they were too taxing for her spiritually. This matter of fact statement wasn’t a shock to me at all. I believe there is a superficial level of empathy in today’s world which is expanding and growing in our world. Like a beast rising from the underworld, it is creating its own superficial world. Emotions are important, understanding others is vital to our own soul growth.

Granted not everyone in your life deserves your empathy. I am sure you would have figured out the people who are worth being in your life and those who are not. Sometimes it takes week, months, years, even decades to realise not everyone is deserving of your empathy. Empathy is a great tool and gift for navigating this world. Yet it is very much overlooked, and looked down upon as a wishy washy spiritual practice.

If you feel empathy, then you begin to understand how important it is to listen to others who need your help. It is also vital to learn to not absorb the feelings of those you are helping, as this doesn’t do you any favours. The digital era is all about selfies, click advertising, what can I buy, what can I sell, how much will I get out of this? Empathy serves a higher level of yourself which can recognise and understand the true light which dwells within, that can expand its own magic and make others feel comfort, safety and love.
